Most impossible Coat Ever

I'm tired of buying presents for family since I never know what to get them anyways. So I'm making a winter coat for my brother since he doesn't have one.

He wants something like this:

A vintage-feeling lumberjack-esq coat. But with a zipper and in a proper lumberjack plaid like this:

Only problem is that fabric is neigh on impossible to find. And a pattern. Don't get me started. Men's modern patterns are slim pickings. Add in the fact that my brother needs a 52" or 54" chest and there is nothing. So my brother borrowed his friends wool overcoat which is close but going to need some tweaking. I draped the back on him wearing the coat yesterday and the front tonight. Sleeves will have to be drafted since I had to raise the bottom of the armscythe about 3". It was near the middle of his side. And add some room to the sides to accommodate some roundness.

I was able to convince him that a solid color will hide the clever side shaping a lot better than a plaid. So it's going to be a black or dark grey wool coating. He hasn't picked what he wants for the lining. This is the zipper that I bought. There will be a placket to cover it, kind of like on pants. Tomorrow I was my fabric for making the mock up. I might even get the mock up made or at least cut out.
