okay so basically this was the best night ever. now yes, writing this entry will be difficult to do seeing as i'm totally drunk, but i'll try my best. basically it started with me rediscovering that matmos was playing at sfai today with richard...something i can't remember. that was early today. i told cissa about it and she brought andre along, which ruled. we were both late, and it was a short set already, so that was poo. but the thing itself RULED, for what little we saw of it.
i talked to drew daniel (of matmos), and he invited me to drink with them at Twin Peaks, which for those of you who don't know, is a classically older gay bar (one of the first in castro, if not the first. so i went there, and of course was greeted warmly by drew, who didn't notice that i sat right by him at first. i FINALLY met martin, and he is the goofiest queer i've ever met, a self-described "big goofy faggot". This was in response to a comment by a very cute journalist named Eric who mentioned to Martin that he seems very much so like a cold cut, austere german electronic artist in the photos taken of matmos. Eric and I talked a good long while, at one point i got his number. he works for the Bay Area Reporter, trying to break them free of their stodgy elder-queer notions of gay lifestyle (which includes Gloria Gaynor music *shudder*) and bring them into the indiequeer culture of today (Hey Willpower, Le Tigre, Matmos, Gravy Train!!!!, Boyskout, etc...weirdly enough i either know or have dated someone from four out of five of those bands). i will be calling him soon.
i mentioned to drew and eric that adam had played "time after time" by cindy lauper three times in a row at sparky's, and drew was reminded of this hilarious and frightening story that björk had told him when he was on tour with her. basically, she was in this cover band in iceland, and at one point the only big crazy butch lesbian in the town came to one of the shows and threatened to cut herself (she had the knife and everything), if they didn't keep playing time after time until she was satisfied. so the woman was crying and holding a knife to her wrists while björk and her cover band played time after time like 9 times in a row. soooo fucking weird.
i also met these other two guys who were really hot, jacob (this dude is FUCKING HILARIOUS and he reminds me of my friend adam katz to no end) and benjamin (who looks like he was ripped from a club in europe even though he's american). They were friends of Drew and Martin, and were the guys closest to my age out of the whole group. Jacob is so funny it hurts, and so awesome. I got their numbers too, and Jacob invited me to this thing he's DJing at on Tuesday. All of them (Drew included) are big fans of the indiequeer scene, things like Aunt Charlie's Tubesteak Connection, and that night at DECO (which Drew went to after Twin Peaks). I said bye to Drew, he said he'd see me soon. I took at picture with Jacob, Eric and Benjamin. It was fun. GOD it was fun. and i'm still a little drunk, eating Cheezits. OH, i'm drunk because i had a heineken, Martin bought a bunch of us Yeager shots, and a biiiiig glass of pale ale.
i love being a san franciscan.
