Can’t No Grave Hold My Body Down!

Mar 21, 2011 10:05

So I really am a lemming these days...scurrying after meme after meme after meme... this one is via gyzym and while I can't hope to rise to her level of hilarity it seems iTunes has a few rather on-point things to say about my life.

IF SOMEONE SAYS "IS THIS OKAY" YOU SAY:
Making Flippy Floppy, Talking Heads  - Making flippy floppy is okay. MORE than okay. VERY VERY OKAY. OKAY?

WHAT WOULD BEST DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY?
Come Rain or Come Shine, Billlie Holiday -   Okay this sort of works. I AM gonna love you, come rain or come shine.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE IN THE OPPOSITE/SAME SEX?
I Have Loved You Wrong, The Swell Season - AHAHA Yes. This. Well, not so much anymore you understand having been in a committed relationship for 20+ years but before that, yeah.

HOW DO YOU FEEL TODAY?
Keep On the Sunny Side, The Whites  - Actually, I feel like a slug today but it's a great song.

WHAT IS YOUR LIFE'S PURPOSE?
La Belle Josette, The Pine Leaf Boys - Hmm...this is a going-to-a-wedding tune. From a FABULOUS young(ish) Cajun band. Maybe "Two old oxes, two old horses, harnessed to the old wagon"? or perhaps my life purpose is just to dance to great tunes from The Pine Leaf Boys? Yes, I'll take that one.

WHAT IS YOUR MOTTO?
My Mind’s Made Up, Marica Ball - AHAHA. Okay. Yep. "When I'm with my baby I count my blessings everyday. You might say I'm being stubborn and foolish but my mind's made up." Sing it Marcia!

WHAT DO YOUR FRIENDS THINK OF YOU?
Million Miles Away, Peter Case  - Generally, yes. Also, Peter Case FTW!

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT VERY OFTEN?
Rex’s Blues/Ft. Worth Blues, Steve Earle - IDK, A Townes Van Zandt song "eyes to laugh and lips to cry" and Steve's lament for Townes, about the traces of ourselves we leave in the places we drift through. They're both gorgeous songs.

WHAT IS 2+2?
I Got Loaded, Los Lobos - Apparently it's two for one night.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOUR BEST FRIEND?
The Road Goes on Forever, Joe Ely - "and the party never ends..." okay, but I refuse to run off to Florida with him, do drug deals gone bad, and take off with the money while leaving him to take a murder rap (also, I am not a waitress in the only joint in town, just saying).

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE PERSON YOU LIKE?
Jumpin' With Symphony Sid [Live], Van Morrison & George Fame - Kinda freaky as this live album is one of his absolute fave's.

WHAT IS YOUR LIFE STORY?
If I Needed You, Townes Van Zandt - Okay, yes. TVZ can sing my life story, that's fine by me.

"If I needed you would you come to me,
Would you come to me, and ease my pain?
If you needed me
I would come to you
I'd swim the seas for to ease your pain"

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GROW UP?
Righteously, Lucinda Williams  - Mmm, I love Lucinda. I love this song. Tell it like it is, BB!

WHAT DO YOU THINK WHEN YOU SEE THE PERSON YOU LIKE?
An American in Texas, Uncle Walt’s Band  - My New Jersey boy...

WHAT WILL YOU DANCE TO AT YOUR WEDDING?
Tear-Stained Letter, Richard Thompson - Hey, this is truly an uptempo dance tune. We may not have had it at our wedding but we've danced to it many time. Maybe "Two Left Feet" from the same album would be more appropriate, though.

WHAT WILL THEY PLAY AT YOUR FUNERAL?
Pinball Wizard, The Who - No. just...no.

WHAT IS YOUR HOBBY/INTEREST?
Everything is Broken, Bob Dylan - Oh, Baby, if you only knew.

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST SECRET?.
Mountains O’Things, Tracy Chapman - Not really a secret, no.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOUR FRIENDS?
Sacred Ground, Sonny Landreth - Sadly my friends are not all great Louisiana slide guitarists - although it would probably get a little old (eventually) if they were. But man, it's a great song and I can run with the sentiment.

WHAT'S THE WORST THING THAT COULD HAPPEN?
I Want to Sing, Regina Spektor - AHAHA, MAYBE, yes.  I want to sing - you DON'T want to hear it.

HOW WILL YOU DIE?
Big Yellow Taxi, Joni Mitchell - Am I going to be paved over for a parking lot? Or is just that I don't know what I've got 'til it's gone? Or should I just stay the hell away from taxi's?

WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOU REGRET?
Black-Eyed Man, Cowboy Junkies - this works surprisingly well.
"I always meant to say I'm sorry
For all the things I said and did
'Sorry,' I feel better now, do you?
But you promised me the sky
And fell short a star or two
What else did you expect me to do?"

WHAT MAKES YOU LAUGH?
Is This Love, Bob Marley - I wanna love and treat you right but if you think I'm sharing your single bed...

WHAT MAKES YOU CRY
Video Killed the Radio Star, The Buggles - Well, I do have a face for radio!

WILL YOU EVER GET MARRIED?
Why, Why, Why, Billy Currington - HA!  Title aside the song is about not trying to change the things that drew you to the person you love.

WHAT SCARES YOU THE MOST?
The Boys of Summer, Don Henley - Well, I do take baseball a bit too seriously and the Astros season does seem to be shaping up to be pretty traumatizing...

DOES ANYONE LIKE YOU?
Catapult, R.E.M. - "Did we miss anything? Did we miss anything?" OTOH yes, my friends are the sorts to build a trebuchet or two. Or a CAT-a-pult. Or, more correctly the sort to TALK about building one and them... not.

IF YOU COULD GO BACK IN TIME, WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE?
I Can Talk, Two Door Cinema Club - I really should have kept my mouth shut more often, it's true.

WHAT HURTS RIGHT NOW?
Prayer in Open D, Emmylou Harris - OUCH!  Emmylou, why you gotta hit so close to the bone?
"There's a valley of sorrow in my soul
Where every night I hear the thunder roll
Like the sound of a distant gun
Over all the damage I have done
And the shadows filling up this land
Are the ones I built with my own hand
There is no comfort from the cold
Of this valley of sorrow in my soul "

WHAT WILL YOU POST THIS AS?
Can’t No Grave Hold My Body Down, Mike Farris & The Roseland Rhythm Revue - ALRIGHT!  Close this down with a little bluesy gospel!

GOD I LOVE MIKE FARRIS! AND I LOVE YOU GUYS...SO HERE'S A LITTLE MIKE FARRIS. GET UP AND DANCE. NOW! I AM COMPLETELY SERIOUS. GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND MOVE! (Isn't he GREAT?)

ETA - AHAHA! I was at this show!  JFC! I am now so old that half the time I go to find a vid of a band I love playing an Austin gig I SEE MYSELF IN THE VIDEO!  AHAHAHA! SO OLD!  Also, I go see a whole lot of live music and a whole lot of people in this town record and post music to youtube.
