A few days ago paragraphs asked what we learned from NaNo and I’ve been giving the question rather a lot of thought. Then earlier today valancy_joy posted her thoughts and that has spurred me on a bit.
I'm really glad I did it and I was skeptical of the word count from day one so I really can't count it as a failure. I learned a hell of a lot about how I write best. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
was talking with valancy_joy about doing our own mini-nano in march or something, b/c november was just a terrible month for me (and maybe lots of other ppl) and i'd really like to get myself motivated enough to do some actual writing on the many many things i have going!
instead of a certain word-goal, we could have a certain writing time every day (an hour, 2 hours, whatever works for the individuals) and go with that - i think when ppl focused too much on their wordcount it sort of hindered their process (or maybe that's just me)
No, not just you, as I too think the competition to get as many words as possible is defeating the purpose. 50k sure, but beyond that? I disagree that more words is better.
ANYWAY--I totally will do that with you guys, if you want me to. I'd love it! I should be finishing up next project for Loose-Id by then, or starting on the fantasy, which is gonna be one crazy project.
yeah, i'm always an edit-as-i-go type and i generally hate it when someone uses 20 words to say what they could have said in 7, you know? LESS IS MORE and all that :)
ok... we'll have to set this up (after the holidays!) does march sound like a good month for ppl? i can't think of anything i'd have going on in march (right now, who knows what will happen between now and then?)
OOOH! I LOVE this idea! Yeah, word counts ended up being a trap for me but setting aside and hour or and hour and half every day would be LOVELY! I'd also feel free to work on lots of different projects, which I know people do for NaNo but I go t stuck on the ONE TRUE THING so I ran with it.
Don't get me wrong. NaNoWriMo is a terrifically cool project but what you describe is ultimately MUCH more workable for me and would reinforce my writing practice better.
i was totes going to write up 'what i learned my my nano failure' but I DIDN'T HAVE TIME! still could, i guess, one of these days
