THIS is why my "I never set people up" rule is a thing of beauty!

I just had a weird and potentially awkward (but thankfully not) moment with an old friend on the phone...

He called me about something irrelevant to all this but as his kids are at camp now, too, I mentioned that (mutual friend) and (mutual friend) and Dave's older sister (who has been in Austin about two years now but is just sort of getting social again after Big Nasty Divorce) are coming over for a casual dinner thing that I have waaaay overcooked for and invited him to join us.

He'd be delighted, great, what can he bring, we can always use another bottle of wine, great, yeah seven...then right before we hang up he says, "Wait. You're not setting me up, right" and I'm perplexed but just say "I never set anyone up, you know that" and he says, "Okay, because I don't really think I'm ready." which I get because his partner died last year but I still have no idea what we are talking about and then he says "But I met (Dave's sister) that one time and she seems great" and I'm all ??? but the call ended and now...

Okay, I've known this guy for twenty-six years and never known him to date women. But apparently he does. Maybe. But I am totally not setting him up!

Except, DAMN IT! If he IS bi they'd actually be really cool together...

ETA: I can't imagine it ever being an issue but.. I AM CAPTAIN OBLIVIOUS! Unless you feel the need to tell me who you are shagging or hoping to be shagging I WILL NOT FIGURE IT OUT FROM SUBTEXT. I won't try, actually, but I'm also very bad at it. I gave up trying to figure out any RL relationships other than my own many years ago. Which may be why I like fandom so much...
