Cogent, thoughtful commentary will have to wait but I can tell you that this is a huge glorious mess that fails in ways that owe very little to the fact that Matt Damon never stopped being Matt Damon and Jonathan Pryce was so over the top that he came back 'round the other side. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Jonathan Pryce, but. Limits. Yes.
It IS gorgeous. And rich. And Gilliam got so so so much right. I don't know if it's that he tried to include pretty much everything, or the structure, or the edit but it just didn't work for me - much like Baron Munchhausen was a huge glorious mess that DID work for me.
