My vote counts

I got up at 6am this morning to get to my polling place. I knew I would have to wait in line but honestly, it was like Black Friday at your favorite department store. The line outside, in the pouring rain, wrapped around the building and down a side street. Thank God for my MP3 player and the heavy duty umbrella I brought along for the wait. In 2004 I waited 45 minutes and I thought that was forever. It took me 2 hours and half to finally make my voice heard. The mood was very dignified and I think I saw only one person come upon the line and turn away in disgust. Unfortunately, I think he was a Democrat. According to lore, Democrats usually don't turn out in the rain to vote. I did. I wouldn't have missed this day for love nor money. It was the most awe inspiring 3 hours of my life.

I drove by my polling place this evening to see what the line was like. Nadda! Zilch! Nothing! Not one person in line. If I had known then what I know now, I wouldn't have changed a thing.
