So I just get here and I start working last week, on like, Wednesday…and everyone is trying to get to know me since I am the only new person on the crew, and JT sees my backpack that I puck up early this summer.
“Nice bag, what kind is it?”
“Oh, it’s a Swiss Army”
“Oh yah, I’ve seen those, Mine’s an Eastpack”
“Yah my last one was too, it died in Georgia.”
At the time, I didn’t think much of the conversation, but the more it ran in my head the more I realized what an odd conversation it was. Like discussing shovel sharpen, and Trowels…or why Metric rocks…just things that seem normal to me, but later when I tell my non-archee friends they will look at me like I am odd and not get it. (I love all of you). Just observing, that’s all. Things are different out in the field.
