Fun in Savannah

Apr 24, 2007 19:41

Tonight I write from the Motel 8 in Savannah Illinois. This is the first overnight that we have done, and so far it’s not so bad. The hotel is great and there is a decent breakfast here.

The site is another thing all together. It’s amazing! It’s a Mississippian mound site and we are excavating around a temple mound. Which is F’ing amazing to me! I am used to production sites, where we find evidence of tool production in the form of flakes and cores of chert. Here just knowing that the site is like a village with a temple attached is fun, and any rock found in the site is cultural. Not that we have found much, but we are hoping with the rain tonight, that the site will wash up some good stuff.

Unfortunately my camera batteries are dying and I forgot my charger, sooooo I don’t have much in the way of pictures. Still, I have managed to get a few and I will post them on my photo-bucket and photo album.
