The one where beers and a zipper busted Ransom and Stewie's secret...
This adventure is a meticulous, frame by frame analysis of Ransom and Stewie's fleeting - yet epic (see FERD) - appearance at the 2009 MTV Video Awards...
We have our first glimpse at our heroes, as they enter from the side of the stage. The lights are still dim. Stewie is leaning very close to Ransom and, for a fleeting second, it looks like she could be holding his hand. ... Oh right, and Tay the pup is there too.
The lights are now on and the trio is walking towards the narrow staircase. We forget how to breathe at the first sight of Stewie in the limelight! A glowing dark haired Angel has just appeared!
The stairs are narrow, and Ransom steps back to make room for the Angel to descend. Stewie reaches out for the pup’s hand and supports herself down the steep steps. She discards his hand as soon as she is on even ground - without one glance in his direction - and immediately gravitates towards her Ransom.
Stewie takes in the sea of screaming faces and is suddenly overwhelmed, looking tense as she walks past the extended hands reaching out for her. To protect his Angel from the unworthy hands, Ransom reaches out and distracts the mob.
Stewie finally reaches the front of the stage and immediately searches for Ransom, who is slightly behind, still distracting the mob. She catches a glimpse of him on her left and gravitates in his direction again.
The pup stands like a post.
Ransom is parading a very silly smirk - we presume due in part to the intoxicating nearness of the Angel, the one too many Heinekens consumed back stage and the memory of the events that resulted in our heroes arriving 20 minutes late for the event.
Stewie is overwhelmed by nerves again... In a momentary lapse, she turns towards Ransom, hand outstretched, reaching for the comfort of his hand. Ransom glances at her extended hand and transfers the microphone to his other hand, freeing the one closest to his Angel. Stewie’s hand is now in a tight fist and she bites her lip in frustration. Ransom senses her need and reaches up behind her, ready to wrap his arm around her. He recovers at the last millisecond and runs his hand through his hair instead.
Stewie turns away from Ransom, the nerves escalating as she does so, her arm tight around her middle... She immediately turns back again, searching and finding the much needed reassurance in Ransom’s eyes. She smiles as they make eye contact and for a millisecond everything is OK.
The pup continues to stand like a post.
Stewie finally recovers and is about to begin speaking. In a quick attempt to play down the intimacy of the smile that was just exchanged with Ransom, she decides to lean into the pup and whisper some quick nonsense into his ear. We see a momentary emotional display from the post. Ransom is still smirking, imagining Stewie minus the Angel’s dress. He switches microphone hands again and crosses his arms.
Stewie finally begins to speak, leaning back into Ransom and touching his arm. His fingers reassuringly graze her skin under his crossed arm as she speaks. As Stewie leans into Tay at the mention of Team Jacob, Ransom quickly pulls his now visible finger back and lifts his hand up to his face. Stewie and Ransom’s arms meet again as Stewie finishes her introduction.
It’s now Ransom’s turn to speak! Stewie turns her head attentively in his direction, parting her lips.
The pup continues to stand like a post, staring blankly ahead.
Ransom gravitates towards Stewie as he speaks and the sudden nearness distracts her. Stewie’s eyes look down, gazing longingly toward the magical zipper of his well fitted pants - and she unconsciously bites her lower lip at the memory of recent events involving the said zipper. Her hand moves up the microphone as she continues staring down... She recovers and instantly moves her other hand off the microphone and through her hair. Their arms are even closer and she finally manages to look up at the audience as Ransom’s introduction ends.
Stewie purses her lips and makes an attempt to focus her attention towards the pup while he begins to speak. She quickly loses interest, and gravitates closer to Ransom for one last time. The pup is done and the trailer is about to begin.
We never see our heroes make their way backstage, but rest assured, that zipper was not quickly forgotten! Its magical powers continued to shine throughout the night - and on the flight back to rainy Vancouver.
Oh, and the pup continues to stand like a post.
