Hi Sherry,
This is Claudia, I’m writing to let you know why I haven’t been able to make it to class the past couple of days. Like I’ve mentioned before my car is not working and it’s parked out in my front yard motionless (it’s a shame I had a full tank of gas when it gave). But anyway; I’ve been getting rides from friends that have class on mon. and wed. But I don’t know anyone that goes to class on tues. and thurs. And I haven’t been able to find anyone that might give me a ride on those days. My boyfriend’s mom used to lend me her car but she just started working longer hours and can’t make it to time to pick me up from work and drive me to school. I’ve been with out a running car for about two months now. It’s a huge liability for me and the people that help me out. I have to adjust to their schedules and they also need to adjust to mine to give me a hand. I am on my own here all of my family is in Texas and I rely on my friends a lot. My mom helps me out some but can’t do much because of the distance. On the other side of things I also know that it is my JOB to go to school and I wish things in my life were going a lot smoother to be able to dedicate the time I need for school. I moved to Indy to attend this school specifically and since I’ve been here things have been complicating little by little from my car breaking down, to getting sick, to losing my job besides all other boat loads of stuff. I know you probably hear this a million times from all your students and that it has become very difficult to pin point who is telling the truth or not. I don’t mean for this to be a sob story or have you feel sorry for me (it’s a little embarrassing having to tell people really). I know the ‘my car is broken’ story has been overdone WAY too many times! I understand. But sometimes it’s not just an excuse; sometimes it’s a true fact that a person is having a hard time with things and that they’re barely managing to get by. So before you write me off as a slacker or irresponsible please take into consideration what I’ve said above. I just wanted to let you know why my attendance and attention has been flaky. I am sure this might be a little too much information than you needed but I felt that it was necessary for me to let you know and explain my situation. Thank you for your time.
