Convivial songs!

Greetings!

At the forthcoming Makers' Faire, I will be hosting a class in the bar that will consist of me and interested parties singing convivial period songs appropriate to such a locale. In order to ensure that many people will feel able to sing along, I have selected five of my favorite such songs and put lyrics, sheet music, and mp3s online here:

I will have very small song books of these songs with me at the event, but if you feel that you would like a chance to prepare further ahead of time, I will be hosting a Convivial Practice Session at my home in Somerville on the evening of Tuesday, January 28, from 7-9, where we will sing these very songs. Light snacks and appropriate beverages will be provided; please let me know if you would like to attend so that I can ensure both enough victuals and also enough provisions for parking, and I will send you directions.

NB: This class does not have to be limited to these five songs, and if you have a favorite that you would like to teach, please do consider bringing it with you! I would stress only that my intent is to have songs that are both conducive to singing along with very little preparation (i.e., they are sung in unison, have repeated sections, and do not require any sheet music to learn), and also documentable to the SCA period. For purposes of this class, Mr. Ravenscroft's work through 1611 is entirely welcome.

To your very good health!
