Insignificant little things

As I haven't made one of those long, boring and ranty posts in ages, I think it's high time for one. Holidays came and went. The spring semester is looking to be moderately busy and very lonely. Very few lecture courses but plenty of old fashioned studying. Mainly theology, some history, languages and grammar.

As for New Year's resolutions: well, I've never really believed in them. But I promise to try and take good care of myself. I should probably get rid of a few more kilos and make sure I get plenty of sleep. I'd promise to be less of a pathetic shut-in with no life whatsoever, but I know I'd never be able to keep that promise.

My dog is sick. She was at the vet yesterday, but as the entire staff had a really bad flu, the operation was postponed until next Monday. Granny happened to phone yesterday and mum told her about the vet and how the tests and x-rays and all cost 142 euros. And of course the operation won't be cheap. Granny dearest, a woman with a calculator instead of a heart, commented that we should have my dog put down as she costs so much. Thank God I wasn't on the phone with granny. My mother bought Iita for me pretty soon after my parents got divorced. Roughly a decade ago. She's a great dog. Sure, loud and bossy and a bit too greedy, but also very affectionate and loving. Whenever I sit down to read something, she curls on my lap. Se loves piano music and whenever anyone is playing our piano, she sits on the couch listening to it. And she's crazy about tennis balls. They are the only toys she has ever played with. Iita is a Cairn Terrier, so she probably has four, five, six, even ten more years to go. Aside from the hormonal imbalance she's currently suffering from, and the pyometra, which will be operated next Monday, she's as healthy as a dog can be. Always has been. To be totally honest, I'd miss my granny way less than my dog.

I'm having this weird urge to go traveling again. Maybe I should finally go to Japan? Dunno when, though. I should start searching for a summer job, maybe even a part-time job as well. Wish I didn't have all these allergies, would make the entire job hunting a lot easier.

The degus are doing fine, as well. I ended up naming them Rommi and Cola (Rum and Cola to all you who don't speak Finnish). I found them a running wheel that is safe even for degus and they've since lost all their extra chubbiness. They seem to love the running wheel a lot.

I really should take new pictures of them. That one is ages old.
