My dad had a pretty serious fall a few days ago and he's okay now, but I was still very shaken. Due to a lot of major health issues that he has, I have long been expecting the day when something awful would happen. Still, I was so shaken... I didn't realize- I guess I really had no idea the role that death plays in life, and the role that death would play in *my* life. One of the themes of my life has been the witnessing of sort-of deaths of the spirit. I've been exposed to numerous people very close to me who walk and breathe but don't live, whose lives are swallowed up in alchohol or some other poison. But I had never witnessed the sudden death of someone close who really was living- not until last fall, when Ashleigh passed.
Now, here is another, Kristine who died very suddenly in a snowmobile accident, was in our year at Conard High. She was beautiful, I remember, and I was always impressed by her intelligence. And she always struck me as genuinely kind.

You will be missed.
