Yesterday I went for my regular check up at the U of C. Normal stuff I do every year to make sure the C isn't back. I went early for some blood work.
Since I had some time to kill I went to see what Gilda's Club was about. They were meeting right there at the hosp. When I got there 5 women were sitting around a table talking.
I was welcomed and one of the women, Cathy, started talking with me. She was very nice. She is a survivor too. But, I kept being drawn to another conversation. Sitting across from me was the most dynamic woman I have met in many years.
Nikki has stage 4 cancer. I won't go into details about her cancer, but she has the most up beat attitude I have ever seen. She and her partner, Amy, knocked my socks off.
She truly fits the attitude Gwen and I embrace as our team name "Celebrate Life"
These two women have made an impact on my life. To quote a song from the musical "Wicked"
"Who can say if I've been changed for the better, because I knew you. Because I knew you, I have been changed for good."
