Character info
Series/Fandom: Tangled
Character's Name: Rapunzel
Character's Sex: Female
Character's Age: 18
Canon point: Just after the Snuggly Duckling incident, before reaching the Kingdom.
Abilities: Rapunzel has magic hair that can heal when she sings. It can heal wounds as well as restore youth. It can also be used as a handy rope and extenda-grabber. She has also proven to be fairly mean with a frying pan, and not in a cooking manner.
Background: "look at the world so close and I'm half way to it"
Appearance: "when will my life begin?"
Personality: Rapunzel is a bit like a favorite puppy: loyal, cheerful, and extremely naive.

That being said, she was raised in an isolated tower in the middle of the forest, her only other contact being her mother, Gothel, and a chameleon that Rapunzel adopted as a friend, Pascal. Gothel told Rapunzel that the world is a cruel place, and people would try to use her for her healing hair so they had to keep her locked in the tower to protect her gift. This gave her a very skewed view of the outside world and its inhabitants. She takes her responsibility to protect the magical properties of her hair very serious, staying locked away for so long despite her curiosity to see the world.

Having so much time on her hands with so little actually required of her, Rapunzel has spent most of her spare time educating herself and learning things. She's fairly proficient in many different hobbies: baking, candle making, paper mache, ballet, sewing, guitar playing. Just to name a few. She's also proven she's very inquisitive and intelligent, questioning things around her and making detailed star charts to try and solve the mystery of the floating lights she sees every year on her birthday.

Rapunzel's true passion lays in art, as shown by the extensive murals she's decorated her tower in. She's a skilled painter with a vivid imagination. Often finding herself in happy paint splatters. She has a natural self-confidence, leaving her unconcerned with her physical appearance. If she feels the desire to dance, she'll dance and probably drag half the town along with her.

All this might make Rapunzel seem like a docile little flower. She's not. Rapunzel is as athletic as one can be trapped in a tower, using her hair as a rope to climb daily and she also hauls her mother up from the ground into the tower proper. She's also a very passionate person, dreaming of exploring the world outside and discovering, once and for all, the mystery of the floating lights. But she's also very obedient to Gothel and loves her mother very much. Gothel is the only person Rapunzel has ever known, she's never lied to her mother before and has always done well to follow whatever orders she was given (like a good daughter). As such, Rapunzel spends a great deal of time once she's out of the tower fretting about breaking her promises to her mother.

Did I mention she's also kind of fierce? She single handedly took down a strange man who broke into her tower...granted, he had his back turned to her and she smashed him in the head with a frying pan, but still! There was (little to) no hiding from Rapunzel. She took charge of the situation, incapacitated her potential attacker, and then tied him up with in her closet. It was only after a fight with her mother (about going outside, of course) that she realizes this newcomer in her life, Flynn Ryder, could safely lead her to the lights and have her back to her tower before Gothel returned from an extended trip.

Not to mention the fact that she saved Flynn in a pub full of thugs from a certain beat-down. She might have been a little scared then, but that didn't stop her from shouting them all down and winning them over with talk of her dream.

She has a very infectious personality, people can't seem to help but like her. It may come from the fact that she's not judgmental in the least, she finds other people genuinely fascinating

(at this point in her canon) Rapunzel has already achieved one of her dreams, finding the courage to leave her tower and face the world head on.

[communicator clicks on, there's the image of a...chin]

like this? or...

[communicator clicks off again, and then back on rapidly]

Oh! I did it! [Rapunzel leans back, her whole face coming into view. She's smiling, hands tugging at a hank of hair that rests over her shoulder and okay, maybe she’s a little  nervous but that’s covered mostly by excitement] Hello! [pause] I'm not sure what I'm supposed to say... [smile fades a little at the corners]  The little moogle that found me said my world was swallowed by the darkness, I didn't know that could happen. Then again, it’s not like I really know much about the outside at all. I guess eighteen years in a tower doesn’t really prepare you very well for this kind of situation, huh?

[awkward pause is awkward, Rapunzel bites her lip while she thinks]  Well, I’m here, I guess. Hopefully there’s some way to get back soon [mumbling] or at least someone I know who’s here. [trying very hard to think Mother and not Flynn]

[looks at the screen again, tries to perk up her smile] But it’s okay, this is an opportunity, right? I mean, now I get to do so much that I haven’t before. And there’s so many people [smiles genuinely this time]  I really am excited to get to know everyone better.

[a noise in the background, Rapunzel turns, momentarily forgetting the communicator] Oh, no I remember, sorry. I’ll be right there. [turns back to the screen] I guess that’s all for now then? [pause] it turns off like this, right? [communicator clicks off]

Go outside, or stay in? That was a problem Rapunzel had faced before. She tried not to think about the consequences of her last situation like this… World swallowed by the darkness, everyone that she knew (all two of them) lost, possibly forever. No, thoughts like that did nothing for her general sense of morale.

The sweet little moogle (and oh, what she’d give for her sketchbook) had promised to introduce her to some of the locals. “You won’t be lonely, kupo.” Which had been very nice of…him. At least, she thought it was a him. There was no polite way to ask what gender it was and really, it didn’t matter. Nice was hard to come by, at least according to Mother…

But if the moogle was kind, and promised to help her meet people then that would mean they would be kind too, wouldn’t it?

Rapunzel tugged at her hair again. She had spent so much time alone, protecting her ability. Would people try to take advantage of it here?

Should she stay in, or go outside?

On the other hand…Mother might be out there…or even Flynn….

It might be too much to hope for… either way she’d never know sitting in here.

Rapunzel stood up, took a deep breath, and opened the door.
