[And here's DC Chris Skelton, suddenly convinced, dream logically, that he must be here as security. There's no way he was invited to an upper class party for any other reason, though he's a bit surprised that the Guv didn't insist on doing it. Or that Sam isn't here. Why'd they trust him with security on his own? He self-consciously presses himself against the wall beneath Road's balcony, trying to stand to attention, wishing that the blazer he was wearing wasn't quite so old, that his sweater vest didn't have a hole at the bottom front where the moths got at it. All he had to do was stay unobtrusive and he'd make it through the night.]
[And in the strange way of dreams, Road is no longer up on the balcony but leaning back against the wall right next to him, blending in with the other guests in her lavish ballgown, even if the lollipop she's still holding looks rather incongruous.]
[Chris starts slightly at the sudden voice beside him and turns to look at Road, a little nervous to see a young, upper class girl. In his experience, girls are terrifying from about 5 up until they're 17: especially if they're higher class than him and know they're superior. He has stumbling, awkward memories of being teased relentlessly.]
Wouldn't know, miss. Never been to a party like this before, me.
[This particular girl doesn't look to be more than thirteen, even if the way she holds herself seems a bit older, lollipop and all. She uses it to gesture at all the dancers, still spinning around in an unending dance.]
Well~, what do you think? From looking at them.
[And then, with a tiny smirk up at him:] Are you having fun?
S'not my job t'have fun, miss. And...I dunno. All seems a bit stiff. I can't see much smiling but maybe that's how you lot have fun--uh. Pardon me, miss.
[He pauses awkwardly, and then hurries to speak again.]
What about you? D'you enjoy this sort of thing, miss?
Oh, no, I make him bribe me with candy so I behave!
[She laughs at that smile, not really being nasty but just terribly amused. She's more aware in her dreams than most other people usually are, and has an idea who he is from seeing him on the City's Network.]
[This is a strange conversation, not because of the subject matter, but because he's talking to someone who is two...no, three things he's generally not the best at talking to and he seems to be doing alright.]
[Chris is very bad at hiding his thoughts. They flicker out across his face as expressions, he blurts them out accidentally, and so when he finally realises that this is Road, the only big suspect they really have at the moment in their organ packages murder case, his eyes go a bit wide, his mouth goes slack and when he speaks, trying to still sound casual, his voice trembles slightly.]
Oh...yeah? Nice t'meet you, Road.
[It's not even that he hadn't seen her on the Network before in association with her name. It's just that...well, he's realising a lot of things really slowly in this dream.]
[She notices that, of course she does, far too used to reading people for signs of weakness. And it brings the predatory side of her Noah out as well, but she's more than used to controlling that, letting it out only when it'll be useful to her.]
Nice to meet you too~!
[She gives him an adorable smile, playing up the innocent little girl angle for all it's worth. Not that she really cares about whether he believes her or not.]
[Well, he WANTS to believe her. Maybe he's made a mistake, maybe that Allen bloke made a mistake too... This little girl, doing something so horrendous? Can't be.]
Um...if this's a dream, then I guess I'm not here for security... D'you know why I am?

[shrugging and taking a lick of her lollipop, not caring if she should be saying all that or not.]
I only stay because Papa asks so nicely.

[He smiles at her a bit shyly. She's not said anything nasty yet, so he figures it's safe.]

Wish I was being bribed to do this.

[She can be quite nasty if she likes, but she is rather good at pretending when it takes her fancy.]
Well, people aren't usually paid to do things inside a dream.

[Poor Chris is actually surprised to hear her explanation but he tries to rally.]
It's a dream? Oh, right, yeah, I knew that....only just...not right now. Not exactly. [pause] I'm Chris.

Well, you're not really here for anything. It's just one of the City's curses, trapping us all in each others' dreams. It's happened before.
