That, like a habit, skims everything but focuses attention on nothing. I was originally going to write a post on one of these, but couldn't muster up enough for any of them. So, here they are in sporadic bits...
{1} EVE&ADAM by the Applegates (Mr. and Mrs.?)
[My thoughts on the book; vague spoilers]Ridiculously excited about this book because it is by the author (well, arguably authors) of Animorphs and everyone knows I love that series to death. I splurged on the hardcover and read it overnight, then ended up seriously disappointed, reread it just for good measure, and ended up even further disappointed. I really don't know where this book lost me. I mean, the characters were fantastic and the dialogue was, like usual, witty. The narration was godly too (I mean, c'mon, it's K.A. Applegate here). I guess... the eventual emphasis on romance and the really random (almost laughable really) inclusion of the Solo's parents at the end just felt... rushed? I thought the characters were, in the end, like reverse icebergs, where they had a lot of buildup and development, but little attachment as a result of their actions. But I don't know, I could be wrong and I might be biased. If you read it (or are planning to read it) do tell me what you thought! <3

{2} FRASIER and where I disagree with the OTP tastes of the 'me' of 2005
[Rambling about Maris]I got the boxed set over Christmas and oh god the humor of this show! Something just... I don't know... /resonates/ with me. I love it. I love it, I love it, I love it. Verymuchso. But where I initially flailed and squealed over the interactions of Niles and Daphne, I come back and something about Maris, of all people, just really strikes a chord. I have no idea why, especially as she's made out to be (1) undeserving and (2) inbred, but I found myself intrigued by this never-seen-onscreen character. I still love the main cast to bits and pieces, and I still love Niles/Daphne (and I do not think Daphne is a homewrecker in any conventional sense of the word!) but... I would love to read some Maris-centric fic. I think her marriage was horribly unbalanced and doomed to fail, and I don't think she really loved Niles, but....... the hopelessly optimistic 'let's-never-get-divorced!' child in me wants some chance of a happy ending, if only in musing.

{3} CATCH-22 by Heller, the classic, the ironic, the hilarious
[I don't read nearly enough; light spoilers]So I was more or less laughed out of one of our holiday dinners after confessing to have never read this book. After having read it, I totally understand why. I've read plenty of war-centric literature by the way (the even larger classics, for one, like All Quiet on the Western Front [really hoping the casting of D. Radcliffe will cause this book to jump in popularity], The Red Badge of Courage, and For Whom The Bell Tolls [I confess, I still have to tackle Tolstoy, much to the shame of my single Russian Lit friend]), but nothing quite so /funny/ as Catch-22. And Heller's humor is remarkable, by the way, in that it flits chronologically through scenes using dialogue alone and oh my god the details just build up and up and up and up until you're left with the sidesplitting image of a soldier rowing his way to Scandinavia with a Dixie Cup as a paddle. I really wanted to recommend it to friends in real life, but they all fell in one of three categories: (1) already read it, (2) enough time, but too young for the penultimate chapter, and (3) old enough for chapter 41, but not enough time. Sigh. Still, it's a fantastic book and I really hope to mimic that style of humor someday. Can't wait for Closing Time to arrive in the mail~

{4} BLACK SHADOW VERSE that one will-be-even-longer collaborated Pokémon AU
[shameless pluggage]110,000 words, yay~ I think this is the longest 'pure' gen (no official pairings at all) I've written. Um, it was certainly a nice experience and it was a lot of fun collaborating. So relieved to have not written myself into a rut (well, not yet at least!) and hoping to finish the second segment before 2014. The only thing I am disappointed about is that I can count on a single hand the number of people who've reviewed. Well, disappointment is the gap between expectation and reality, and my writing certainly can't live up to my own expectations yet! That being said, I move to approve of the continent of GenVI being smacked on the moon of the Imagined World. *sparkles*
