SHIPPING MEME

Because I thought I had a lot of time (the start of winter/holiday break and whatnot), I decided to try out the shipping meme! However, because I'm also lazy... and completely incapable of following something through for 30~ days, I figured I would just do it all in one go.  For fear of rambling too much, I also decided to try to (1) limit myself to a new fandom with every entry (unless otherwise specified by the prompt) and (2) stick with one ship per prompt, although other ships may be referred to, in passing.

Well, ready or not... here's a lot more pairing information than you ever needed to know from me! :D

01. Favorite het pairing
NODAME CANTABILE // Shinichi x Nodame
There are fandoms that I stay in - and fangirl for - and yet, don't write/draw/make/compose anything for.  And that's mainly because I feel that they're perfectly complete in themselves.  Nodame Cantabile is that sort of story for me: yes, there is a boy and a girl, and yes, they do get each other in the end, but there are so many beautiful details, so many tough roads in order for the two of them to get to that road.  And even then, they're still often oceans apart, and connected only by a love of music - and for her, it's not even a professional love of music! They are, and I sound so silly to say this, my ideal couple: they've matured as a result of one another, and they see each other as individuals, and respect each other - in the face of their own overwhelming insecurities (and baggage).  And they make it work.
-
02. Favorite yaoi pairing
AXIS POWERS HETALIA // Japan (Kiku) x China (Yao)
If you ask me why I like this pairing, I will easily be able to copy/paste for you entire pages of text detailing why I like this couple, why I think they would work out so perfectly, and why I think they would work because of - as opposed to despite - their historical entanglements.  I enjoy writing about (and reading more on) the history between and behind the two of them, and I like AU settings perfectly fine as well, and even moreso fun!historical speculation.  More than that however, I think that I've written more for this one pairing than I ave more any other, and as such - I've really endeared myself rather greatly to my ideal of their interactions.  I have no idea, as per usual, how long I'll continue liking them, but I sincerely hope that I'll be able to finish my previous fanfictions on them.
-
03. Favorite yuri pairing
ROZEN MAIDEN // Suigintou x Megu
Sadly, it has officially been years (easily three, four, maybe even five?) since I last so much as breathed into this fandom.  Since then, I suppose I have grown to like quite a few other yuri pairings (Querida/Callette from Dark Lord of Derkholm and Azula/Ty Lee from Avatar: The Last Airbender), but this is the one that stuck with me.  I have no idea why: I don't particularly like either of the characters individually (Suigintou's too tragic and Megu is too damsel-in-distress-y) yet... when the two of them interact, I just can't help but think that it's so sweet and heartwarming.  Suigintou opens up to Megu, probably because she's a sick and dying little human girl, but she eventually learns to like Megu's (very sweet!) singing voice.  It was just 'daaaw~' the whole way through for me.
-
04. Favorite sibling relationship
GREEK MYTHOLOGY // Apollo & Artemis
More than seeing this as a pairing/ship, I like the potential interactions and relationships between the two of them.  I imagine the two of them to be insanely jealous-come-possessive of each other, despite the many and varied love affairs they have on the side (Apollo more than Artemis, but of course).  Conversely, I also see Artemis pretending to not be jealous, while Apollo just doesn't hide any of his emotions.  So while I don't mind shipping the two of them, I just prefer them interacting as per usual.  Orion is always fun to reread (or simply read new interpretations of), and Daphne would be great too~
-
05. Favorite friendship
ANIMORPHS // Visser Three & Visser One
Okay, okay, try to stay with me on this one.  First: I have, again, not visited this fandom in years so forgive me if I'm a little rusty on the facts.  Second, yes - why indeed, I do know that the two of them are canon enemies.  However! Think about the possibilities if the two of them - at any point in time - decided to unite themselves together, just for the sake accomplishing task A, B, or C.  They would be entirely unstoppable, not to mention the fear of the galazy.  Anyways, I can ttoally see their respective Yeerks having a good time, chatting with one another... plot new and interesting ways to take over entire galaxies.
-
06. Favorite parent-child relationship
HOUSE OF LEAVES // The House x The Minotaur
Man, am I glad I have yet to see a "weirdest pairing ever" category, because I think this would be a toss-up for that one too.  However, I do not, on the contrary, believe/ship this in a cracktastic sense.  In fact - not at all.  I just totally saw this throughout the whole behemoth of a novel: I mean, the house was created for the purpose of... storing the Minotaur, that's right.  And why was the Minotaur stored away? Because he was a danger to other people... and because his parent/guardian/ruler/king did not want him to have to take responsibility for his past transgressions (*cough* murder).  I mean, it's a tragically typical parent-child relationship, with the protectiveness of the parent being taken to the natural extremes, what with constructing a billion-year-old physically impossible house.
-
07. Favorite rivals relationship
LIAR GAME // Yokoya x Nao
I'm not too sure how much of 'rivals' you could/would call the two of them.  However, it's in the goading playful interaction of Yokoya, which is surprising, particularly because he's (1) hardly a ladies' man and (2) really not one for casual conversation, regardless of how disarming Nao can look.  And what makes it even better for me is that Nao actually rises to the challenge and responds to Yokoya's taunts about the inherent evil in all of humanity (I am, of course, referring to the Crowning Moment of Awesome with the end of the Third Game).  The two of them actively challenge one another, and Nao really learns to... well, lie... because of Yokoya.
-
08. Favorite partners in crime
NARUTO // Pein (Yahiko/Nagato) x Konan
That too all of... maybe five seconds, tops, to decide.  I mean, more than being the quintessential villains in Naruto for the larger part of the franchise's longgg run, the two of them also manage to bring out a lot of the best in the other characters - as well as touching, sweet, and oh-so-very-tragic stories about their angst-filled pasts.  And they manage to propel the slow-moving plot, which is monumental in itself.  Needless to say, I was positively miserable when the two of them died! D:
-
09. Favorite family unit
THE DARK LORD OF DERKHOLM // The (Titular!) Derkholm Family
Where the heck am I supposed to begin with a family this varied and large - so awesome, inf act, that it manages to span across ages and genders and, that's right - species.  And don't get me started on how YoTG managed to add even more awesome into this family.  Well, I guess first we have the enchantingly powerful Mara, who is so capable of spells - she's easily got the basics down better than her husband.  And then we have her adorably bumbling husband - Derk - who manages to hilariously screw everything except for the most important things up.  The older children (Blade, Shona, and Kit) are all talented wizards/bards in their own right, the middle children (Don, Callette, Lydda) are enthusiastic and not just a little bit devious, and the younger child (Elda) has a whole book dedicated to her college shenanigans.  Just Because.
-
10. Least favorite pairing
INUYASHA // Sesshoumaru x Kagome
I would have had a very solid argument for this in simply arguing tht it's (1) totally impossible in the canon storyline and (2) based off of complete and utter crack.. However, that would be a fail! of miserable proportions, especially because the charm of certain pairings (Sasuke x Hinata from Naruto namely) is in their canonical impossibility of actually taking place.  I think it's just because I like the two of them, rather vehemently, with other characters, and as such, a relationship between them would be detrimental to the other pairings that I like.  So yeah... pretty shallow reasoning, what else can I say? xD
-
11. Favorite threesome
MONSTER // Johan x Tenma x Nina
Yeah... I needed an obligatory Monster reference in this lengthy list, despite the fact that I, with all honestly, don't ship anyone with anyone in Monster, mainly because I'm a little bit busy being preoccupied with the awesomeness and win that comes from a plot of such epic!proportions.  Anyways, as for the actual relationship between the three of them, well, it's practically like a "catch me if you can" scenario, which I love very much.  Johan has Tenma and Nina chasing himself across all of Eastern Europe; Tenma has both Johan and Nina indebted eternally to him (saving their lives and silly things like that...), and Nina has both Tenma and John inexplicably (and rather disturbingly, considering their age/relationships) attracted to her.  They're the perfect mess waiting to be mixed.
-
12. Favorite person and animal duo
CALVIN AND HOBBES // Calvin & Hobbes
And so what if Hobbes cannot be seen by anyone else save for Calvin?! The two of them are absolute best friends, and I find it simultaneously endearing and inspiring.  I guess, because this comic strip - and Bill Watterson's brilliance - were such a part of my childhood, I just... well, the ten-year-old me just couldn't ship them, much less anything.  So although I am open to them being shipped, I just love the two of them when they're six years old and forever respectively, playing their pretend games, living in a real world, being snarky and sarcastic... oh, Watterson, you just... win.
-
13. Your first pairing
SAILOR MOON // Sailor Pluto x Hotaru
Haha; I actually don't tread in the yuri!fandom much... or, actually, at all (this is in terms of writing fic, of course).  However, this was the random pairing that no one really understood (this, of course, includes myself), save for the fact that the two of them were removed from pretty much everyone else, and they were both a little emotionally stunted, and took refuge in the friendship/loyalty of a little girl (Chibi-Usa) in order to get along.  I'm not too sure if they've ever met in canon, but I think that it would be really interesting to see how they interact.  Pluto is already well-known for being the one of the more mature Sailor Scouts, and Hotaru has knocked on death's door so many times, I'm pretty sure it hardly phases her anymore.  As such, it's just waiting for a relationship to develop~
-
14. Your most recent pairing
YANKEE KUN TO MEGANE CHAN // Yoh x Adachi
This is absolutely the courtesy of a variety of spoilers and raws, where Adachi is revealed to not only have a younger brother, but a gangster younger brother who became a kickass gang leader in order to be closer to his sister - who is a genius on top of that, and has a huge sister complex! It was just screaming - long and loud and oh-so-very clear, to ship, you know? I would love to write/read some desperation!fic between the two of them, where Yoh knows that she loves Shinagawa and takes it... well, as maturely as he can be expected to take it.  Adachi, naturally, is totally (epically) oblivious, but if she ever does notice anything, I figure that she would purposely ignore it, and hope that Yoh would be able to just grow up and grow out of this childhood... infatuation.
-
15. Favorite non-canon pairing
SPIRAL ~SUIRI NO KIZUNA~ // Kanone x Hiyono
Yes, I know what you're thinking, but here's the thing: I'm more out of my mind with retardedly crazy - not to mention absolutely improbable and distressingly heartbreaking - pairings than you'd like to believe.  And to top it off, I managed to convince someone else (acquiesceme~) to write decent amounts of fic for me.  On this hopeless pairing.  I would just love the potential (snarky!) conversations the two of them would easily be able to have.  Not to mention the waves of 'I don't care!!!' from Ayumu and intense, intense jealousy from Eyes.  More than the crack, however, it would be in watching the two of them swiftly take down enemies, not heartlessly persay, but with the casual air of a businesswoman - that I always imagine (and promptly fangirl over) Hiyono having.  Kanone would love her bouts of bloodlust too.  Hiyono would never understand his need to hurt the people he loves, if only so that they will never be hurt by anyone else.
-
16. Favorite canon pairing
FROM THE SHALLOWER ANNALS OF HISTORY // Napoleon Bonaparte x Joséphine de Beauharnais
I have never been one for history, despite what I may write and say - and history has, for the most part, served as a stepping stone to get to my real purpose, whether that would be proper characterization or a hilarious plot device.  But the two of them, and the subsequent books (really, borderline fanfiction) that I've read on the two of them... they make me adore how history managed to work out in their favor, despite the fact that they both slept around with a lot of other people.  She never married again, despite being given a handful of opportunities (some of them orchestrated by Napoleon himself~) and he married "a womb" - in his own words.  As per usual, there is tragedy, rampant tragedy, in their love - they never got to see each other before his exile; Joséphine died before the 100 days.  But his last words, or, to be more precise: his last word, was her name.  Not the name of the mother of his only child - not some line for revenge against the British, not some promise to continue the Empire of France, her name.
-
17. Favorite battle couple
YEAR OF THE GRIFFIN // The Emir of Ampersand x Felim ben Felim
Yes, they are brothers, and yes, there is apparently enough of an age difference between the two of them so that the Emir is old enough, to look, according to Claudia and Eda, like Felim's father.  But this is the battle couple of them all - I mean, the king has - apparently - seventeen sons, all of whom want the throne, but he chooses his bratty baby brother instead.  But Felim's too cool to rule and decides to ditch out to a university... for wizards.  The Emir, feeling slighted (and also because he swore on his/their mother's name... who just happens to be a farm animal, according to Felim) send seven of his best assassins to bring his heir back to Ampersand.  Oh wait no, I mean: to kill his heir and then possibly leave Ampersand without an heir because screw his seventeen sons and their petty throne wars.  And Felim's response to all this... at the very end of the book? He embraces his brother, they set aside their differences, and he promises to return from the (useless, as already established) Wizarding University with enough power to finally select the heir to the Ampersand Emirate.  The Emir kindly tells his brother to step into the alcoves, because he wouldn't want to get blood on his precious little brother while he orders his army to massacre everyone in the school.  Needless to say, much childish arguing takes place.
-
18. Favorite "nakama"/group of friends
CODE: BREAKER // Kouji x Rui x Yukihina (The Re: Code)
Wow, I didn't think that I'd actually get a chance to gush about them, but this is THE place for them.  Yes, they are awesome in their own right, and yes, they manage to turn from the superbad guys to the antiheroes to the guys that you are glad that you were secretly rooting for all the way.  Kouji and Yukihina look to be so overprotective of Rui, when - in reality - Rui is superprotective of them as well, as a mother bird is to her chicklets.  Add that to the fact that they have various fist-bumping situations (*flail* and *much squealing* is bound to ensue~), and you just have this kickass group of friends that are bound to bring the whole corrupt Eden thing to its knees!
-
19. Favorite band of villains
HARRY POTTER // The Death Eaters (namely: Lord Voldemort/Tom Riddle, Bellatrix Black, and Lucius Malfoy)
Showing that evil has no need to be rich or hot (Voldemort) but can be both... and insane on top of that (Lucius and Bellatrix)! The dynamics of this group scream evil, and while I enjoy crack on the group, I think that the sheer maligance of their actions - along with Bellatrix' blood-curdling acts of cruelty and Lucius' mudblood-sneering constancy, prove them to be true villains.  Of course, Rowling shows that some can redeemed, but I like the 'absolute evil' aspect of Voldemort and Bellatrix.  I'm sorry, there's no way to put torturing someone floating upside-down on a Great Hall table until blood flows from her eyes and she begs for you to stop because she'll tell you the names of anyone and anything you need - or want - to know, can be justified.  But hey, this is fantasy, not real-life, and in fantasy: villains should be godforsaken villains.
-
20. A pairing you like, but don't like what canon did/is doing with them
GAKUEN ALICE // Natsume Hyuuga x Ruka Nogi
I stopped reading after, like, book three when it was revealed (incredibly blatantly, in my opinion) that the storyline would progress to the point where the two of them would be actively competing for Mikan, but that Natsume, being the dark-haired once-antagonist, was going to get her in the end.  UM.  I had big problems with that, particularly because throughout the whole thing, the author continues to drop hints of Natsume being jealous whenever anyone so much as look at Ruka the wrong the way, extending first to the rest of the class and than to Mikan, to the point where Ruka pretty much interacts with animals... and Natsume.  I mean, there was a lot of potential for their friendship, I thought - but then I forgot: this was a shoujo manga! *disappointed* Anyways, there is a lot for me to rant and rave on, particularly because: how does it seem like everyone just passes it off as "they're good friends"; they share scarves and hold hands and eat lunch together and...! ^^;; Anyways, it just always bugged the heck out of me.
-
21. A pairing you think gets too little attention
ALIVE: THE FINAL EVOLUTION // Hirose x Taisuke
*shrugs* This applies for pretty much all of my pairings.  They're all either (1) obscure/crack in their fandoms or (2) from obscure/crack fandoms, which don't have enough of an English!fandom in order to have a mass!archive of fanfic (so that there will be some great/good ones, in between the 80% "other").  However, this is both: an obscure pairing in an obscure fandom.  Which means that I pretty much have to write/request all the fanfic myself.  Being the lazy girl that I am, it's generally the latter.  It's not so much the chemistry as it is the fact that they depend on one another: it has been like that and, the way the story's progressing, it looks like it will always be like that.  Like many of the pairings that I enjoy, I value the conflict and progression into aggression as much as I value their friendship and strong bonds.
-
22. A pairing a lot of people ship but you don't
SOUTH PARK // Cartman x Kyle
Lemme excuse myself here, and go a little bit out on an OOC (and very hypocrital!) limb here and say: I can totally see hate!fic between the two of them.  I can totally see friendship!fic between the two of them.  And yes, their minds are very, very dirty (Imaginationland, anyone? xD) and they're not the normal type of boys, but they're still fourth graders who - most of the time - have no idea what the profanities they say in between every other word mean.  I think they're closer to frenemies than friends and, perhaps, with the right plot devices/catalysts, Cartman and Kyle could indeed seek refuge in one another.  But while they're kids? In the canon timeline of the show? I just totally don't understand it.  But yeah, I would love to read friendship!fic of Cartman and Kyle conspiring together; you just know they would be able to TAKE DOWN THE WORLD.  Together!
-
23. An unpopular pairing that you like
THE DARK LORD OF DERKHOLM // Kit x Lydda
Yes, yes, I know that I'm totally going to get shot for this, for various reasons.  I can list them myself: (1) I've repeated a fandom, (2) They're siblings, (3) The story is pretty much a happy-go-lucky family story with imperialist undertones and absolutely no room (at all.  period!) for incest, (3) The two of them have had maybe one whole conversation (comprising mainly of jeers on Kit's part and demure retorts from Lydda) in the course of the two books, and (4) She gets frikkin' married off in the next book, love at first sight.  But, of course, I'm one for crazy tragic romances, even if I have to devise them from absolutely nothing myself - and by golly, I will! Again, I can see a lot of jealousness and protectiveness, from Kit to Lydda, because she's his little sister, and even though she can fly farther, longer, faster, and better than him, he'll still never quite not be able to imagine her with a spoon in-hand, cooking in the kitchen.  Yeaaah; I know.  D:
-
24. A pairing you think are actually together behind-the-scenes but it's not confirmed
KUROKO NO BASUKE // Aomine x Kuroko
Seriously-seriously.  Everyone who's ever read the chapters from 40-onward, which include Aomine, will know what I'm talking about.  And the Japanese fandom - for once! - is with me on this one: they always, always, always portray Aomine as the crazy!jealous ex-boyfriend who's out to not only get Kuroko back from Kagami, but to beat up Kagami in the process, just as Take That (for stealing the sports!love of my life).  I mean, have you seen some of the expressions they've made with one another? It's like, practically pining, except in the most strictly athletic sense ever.  It's actually a little bit depressing, but then again: they are basketball players, and the only affection is the result of catching someone's fast!passes in the middle of the court.  But if Aomine had the choice, he would either transfer to Kuroko, or have Kuroko transfer to him.
-
25. A pairing you have grown to like but didn't at first
WITCH HUNTER // Ryuhwan x Edea (or: Edea x Ryuhwan; this one I'm actually relatively flexible with~)
Again, totally sucked into this pairing as a result of various fangirlish discussions between xotsukiyume, acquiesceme, and myself, before we decided to start up a WH fanworks archive-come-community.  At first, I was like: AGE DIFFERENCE ewwww.  But then, well, I'm guess it just warmed up on me or something because I found myself not only writing fic for this pairing, but also requesting it when/if I got the opportunity.  I guess I like this pairing because he's so sweet towards, well, only her.  It's like Yoh/Adachi all over again, where she's his mentor and he doesn't respect - or on equal footing on, much less look up to - anyone else but her.  And he's always so shocked to hear her name, and he's still so faithful to her name even though she's dead - and I will never forget his expression when he finds out that she's alive.
-
26. Favorite childhood pairing
POKÉMON SPECIAL ADVENTURES // Silver x Crystal (Kris)
I was alternating between positively furious and constantly raging when I found out that they were going to replace the replace the 'Kris' character with someone else for HGSS.  This pairing was definitely the result of first, playing the Crystal video games (and being epically delighted in being able to play as a girl!) and second, reading waaayyy too much into the manga.  I mean, like Kit/Lydda, the two of them had maybe three lines total where it was Silver to Kris and Kris to Silver.  And yet, I'll extrapolate, extrapolate, I suppose.  Tragedy is a requirement for the two of them here, but I demand threesomes (between Red, Gold, Heart, etc. the choices/combinations are infinite...) and a little bit of enthusiastic crack now and then.  Silver stalking a very bored and somewhat melancholic-come-depressed Crystal is something that I would love to see.
-
27. The pairing you think is most adorable
LORD OF THE FLIES // Jack & Simon
Totally did not like this pairing until after waaayy I read the book in my ninth grade english!class.  And then, in a (rare) moment of retrospect, I thought about the book, how utterly terrifying and well-written it was, and also: the questionable interactions between Simon and Jack.  I mean, Jack is so harsh, but then he picks Simon, the weakest, to patrol with them, and he even given Simon meat; first, when he didn't do anything and then again, when Simon had given his meat to Piggy.  Again, because they're 9/10 year old boys, I'm not too sure how comfortable I am with, say, sex.  But they are stranded on an island and Ralph, at least, might be going through the beginnings of adolescence.  However, playful!friendship (or just outright crack) between the two of them is always a pleasure to read.
-
28. A pairing people would be surprised you like
KATEKYO HITMAN REBORN // Hibari x Haru
Please don't look at me like that! This is supposed to be where I come clean about my weirder secrets... like the fact that I like them based on a super-pretty picture I found of the two of them on... deviantart, I think? Might've been pixiv, actually.  Disclaimer: I've read, like, one chapter of the manga, and then immediately got bored of it, so I'm not too sure how this pairing plays in canon terms (I'm guessing, just based on the type of pairings I lean towards, it has the feasability of SasuHina...) but I think they look really cute together.  And yeah, I ship them.  But I have no backing, and I'm in no position to write fic (save for OOC and AU fic... which would just be original fiction... haha)
-
29. A pairing that needs timespace fragmentation in order to happen
ARTEMIS FOWL // Artemis Fowl x Angeline Fowl
You will hate me so hard for saying this but... I've got such the story structured after them, it's really a pity that I'm just not as desperately in love with the idea of the two of them as I would like to be, so I'll never actually write it.  But anyways, since we've already established that he is capable of - or at least: the fairies are capable of - time travel, I would so bet that he would do something (in the name of saving Angeline, again) and go back in time and meet... a charming young heiress around his age.  And fall in love and stick around, and marry her and... name his son after himself.  See, it's the kind of mindfuck that I can totally see working out in Artemis Fowl.  Even better/more-terrible scenario: if Artemis (II, or maybe I...?) just switches back and forth between the two time segments, playing the part of his father in the past and his 'son' in the future, until the two points meet and he meets his (disapproving) older self and his (self-mocking and ignorant) younger self.  Only to have the same story play out over and over again.  And then Angeline would be trapped in their time skew forever, a result of his/their romance.
-
30. Manysome that's just waiting to happen
THE PERIODIC TABLE OF ELEMENTS // The Halogens
Sadly, I have yet to find any sort of story for the periodic table of elements, serious or cracktastic.  Plus, this would be super-hard to write because, well, everyone is going to have a couple million identical-come-fraternal twins in the timeline.  Nonetheless, the Halogens.  They are so reactive, boom, boom, boom.  Fluorine would be out to bond with anything and anyone, Chlorine would pretend to be leader, Bromine would try to rein the members of his group in, Iodine would try to drag them all into a huge bonding!circle, and Astatine would be the actual leader because it has a whole 85 electrons.  *hides behind a table now* (Okay... I'm done... :D)
