#81: The Icarus Hunt by Timothy Zahn
I was fortunate enough to meet this author at Dragon*con and hear him speak on one of the panels. While I knew who he was, I admit I'd never read one of his books. So when I met him, I bought this one for him to sign and I made a great choice. It's a sci-fi book about a ship captain who is hired to fly a very unique looking ship from one planet back to earth. Before the ship even leaves the first planet people are hunting for him and the treasure it is supposed to contain. It's a cat and mouse mystery of the captain evading those searching for him and figuring out what is so special about the ship's contents. I enjoyed it very much and plan to read more of his books soon.

#82: The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan
#83: The Great Hunt by Robert Jordan
In anticipation of A Memory of Light being published in January, I've decided to do a complete reread of the Wheel of Time books. Yep, all 13 of them. These are the first two. I have not reread these in a very long time and they are much better than I remember. They're enough to hook a reader into the series, but aren't as good as some of the others (but way better than book 10, ugh). You'll hear me talk more about this series as I read them. Usually an epic fantasy series uses the first book as set up. In my opinion, this one takes two. Both of these books read as set up for the rest of the series and it's not really until the end of the second book that the reader gets a good grasp of who the main characters are and what's at stake. It's interesting from a writer's perspective to reread these. They were published 20 years ago and are full of elements that are considered bad writing now. Like info dumping, as an example. Still I have very fond memories of these books.
