So I feel all smart today. I actually learned something in my Neuro class.
Some of you might remember when I was really really sick during my senior year production of Kiss Me, Kate. I lost like 10 lbs in a week and I couldn't stand up or keep any food down and they had to take me out of the commons in a wheelchair because I passed out on the morning that I tried to go back to school after I missed three days. It bothered me so much that the doctor couldn't tell me what was wrong with me because I seriously felt like I was going to die and they did nothing to help me.
I probably should've died. Today in Neuroscience, I learned what was wrong with me. When I woke up in the morning with no voice on opening night, Leahey told me that I could probably get it back if I kept drinking water. There's this thing called water intoxication where if you drink too much water without eating a lot of food, you wash all of the salt out of your body and you get really sick really quickly and usually die. So when I woke up the next morning, weak and dizzy and unable to stand up and vomiting like crazy (a way to get rid of the extra water I was drinking), that was why. And I didn't think to eat salty foods to balance myself back out because I threw up anything I tried to eat for like 8 days.
Now I know not to do that anymore. But it's good that I didn't die and I finally learned what was wrong with me.
