Title: Snow

Summary: Dean hates the snow. They keep driving.
It was funny-easy to forget the seasons when you lived your life passing timezones, in the car with the windows down or the heat turned up along with the music. Snow was a tangible reminder, though, It's winter, and they never fail to encounter it at least once, in Maine or Montana, wherever they happen to be that's cold enough for it.
Dean doesn't like the cold, complaining as he jacks up the dial for the heat, for once glad of his hand-me-down shirt's awkward fit, the too-long sleeves. But he doesn't turn around, because he knows Sam loves it.

This is how the Winchesters know it's getting close to the holidays, barring actual use of a calender, because Dean never carries one and sometimes Sam forgets to check on his cell:
When they're walking in the snow and frigid cold of a Maine tree farm with an EMF reader, trying to find the one in a couple of hundred evergreens that's going to try and kill the next person to bring home a Christmas tree early. There have already been three deaths.
"Serves them right," Dean grouses, pulling on the sleeves of his battered black coat. "It's not even freaking Thanksgiving."

Summary: Sometimes what looks funny at the time has un-funny consequences.
Dean and cold didn't really get along. When they were little, it was something to tease him over, try to taunt him into going outside without his coat on. That stopped around the same time that Dean got old enough to cuss Sam out without getting yelled at for it. Sometimes it still came close to being worth it, though.
Like the time in Fort Kent, which had led to his brother ending up knee-deep in snow in jeans and a t-shirt. He spent the night swearing at Sam, and when he had a fever in the morning, Sam felt kinda like shit for doing it.

Summary: On early-morning coffee runs and the possible mental instability of Dean Winchester.
There was a delicate frost over everything, not cold enough yet for snow but pretty damn cold, and Sam wakes up and stays under the blankets, holed up with the laptop while Dean makes a run for coffee. He comes back ten minutes later, face flushed and hands shaking-cold, but he has coffee.
He's too stubborn to get back into bed like a sane person, sitting on the edge of his to watch TV. Sooner or later, Sam gets tired of watching his brother freeze, and throws one of the extra blankets at him, narrowly missing his head.
Just taking care of his brother, that's all.
