So I've been looking at fics written by very capable authors and it's got me thinking a bit. I've looked at different series that I've really enjoyed or found the characters to be well portrayed. And really, there's nothing original I think I can add. It leaves me wishing I had a better imagination.
Take Cowboy Bebop, for instance. There's hardly anything compelling that can be added to that story. I consider it to be perfect, backwards and forwards. There's humor, drama, suspense, mystery, action, romance and the undeniable angst.
While I have read stories that do take those characters and produce a meaningful plot out of them, I find it difficult to do the same.
Death Note is another one. And I've read so many good stories on this. It usually goes that the more twisted, the better.
Fooly Coolly is on the list as well. There's so much subtext and intricacy in those six episodes that it's impossible to wean something as zany and fresh out of it. I'm still trying my hand at this one, but it's hard.
The same goes for Full Metal Panic. It's nearly perfect in my head - from the intrigue to action to romantic tension and I can't think of a single idea to write about, even though I've come across some very beautiful gems that incorporate all of it.
So is Samurai Champloo (even though I did try to take a shot at it, but it was rather brief and taken from within the series' boundaries).
Oh, fandom.
