There are things visible to naked eyes yet also blurred by the darkness of confusion. People who don’t have the power to see those mentioned things, are pitifully blinded by reality and its effects. But then one day, when pain comes to an end and feelings take over, they will for sure realize the mere existence of which they obliviously ignored.

Ring… Ring…

Kame frowns, then his right hand automatically hits the alarm clock with great force. He sits up, obviously quite annoyed.

‘How did I fall asleep?’

It’s funny and ironic how that question comes first when Kame wakes up.

Humans fall asleep, it’s part of their nature. And when they are asleep, some of their mental nerves rest and stop working, that’s why humans are not suppose to realize when they fall asleep. And that’s why there are so mistakes being made in this world. Because humans are not perfect. Tiredness lures them into dreams, which confuse them from reality, planting in humans desire, anticipation and hope for such non-reality. That is after all, the reason for all the misdeeds. Unknown dreams.

Kame smiles to himself because of his childishness, and realizes that he’s got so much used to living in Jin’s apartment that it almost feels like his real home. And he’s really happy because Jin let him use his house.

Speaking of Jin, it strikes Kame that Jin hasn’t phoned him yet. That means Jin hasn’t allowed Kame to live in his house, which can also technically means that he’s somewhat trespassing or breaking some housing rules.

Kame shivers, then shakes his head.

Jin didn’t call last night as well. The reason Kame was surprised he was asleep because he intended to stay awake and wait for Jin’s suppose to be calling call. But maybe yesterday was a bit too much to Kame’s already-too-strained nerves…

Kame gets up and dresses up to go to work. But he can’t leave the house because his mind is going around the problem whether to bring the whole telephone with him or not, because he’s afraid that Jin might call during worktime since the timezone between Japan and America is different. People might say Kame is too over-careful and shouldn’t care about such small unnecessary things… But guess what, Kame cares, a lot, especially when it revolves around Jin. Kame wants to care.

But knowing that if he brings the phone out of the house, it won’t work like it normally does and that won’t do him any good because what he needs is a phone working fine, not a broken old telephone, Kame gives up on the thought and leaves.

*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*

Kame is standing in front of the practice room door. He knows he’s late again and Ueda will probably scold him but that’s not the biggest trouble he’s dealing with. Kame doesn’t want to once again bring the sadness to all his friends. He wants them to lighten up and start practicing like normal. Everyone misses Jin, but they can still practice. The fact that he received messages from other KAT-TUN members instantly after he got home last night sure proved that they care so much about him and know that he’s in a state that he cannot even literally smile in front of a camera. Yesterday’s rest was for him to calm himself down and think about reality too.

But KAT-TUN have to keep going no matter what. Kame knows that better than anybody. Without Jin, it’s gonna be considerably tough. There will be so many obstacles to overcome, and when they have overcome all those obstacles, more and more will come. Yep, without Jin, KAT-TUN won’t be KAT-TUN anymore. But they also have to keep on going as a unit, even though they will probably have become a fully different unit then.

And Jin said he would come back… right? Kame knows he will. Japan is Jin’s home, the place Jin loves more than anywhere else. Then why America? Everyone knows America is the most powerful country, the richest country in the universe, but that won’t matter to Jin, will it?

Kame sighs. He shouldn’t be wondering nonsense stuff like this. What he needs to do is to get inside and get his groups start working like normal. That should be… the only reality ahead.

Pushing the door, Kame puts on his face the realest truest fake smile he can ever produce. But it soon fades away as he sees the whole practice room is filled with strange despression. Ueda is staring blankly at the distracted wall while the usually happy Junno is burying his face in his wet palms. Maru and Koki are looking at each other, seeming worried and anxious all of the sudden.

“Minna…”

Kame calls out, only one replies.

“Kazuya…”

“Ueda, what’s going on? I mean what happened? Why is everyone…?”

“Kazuya… Please go and talk to Kitagawa-san immediately. There is… an important news he wants to tell you.”

Depending on Ueda’s trembling lips and the way he’s avoiding eye contact with Kame, something has to be really wrong to make the calm Ueda blow his top, to steal away the forever charming smile on Junno’s face.

Kame is extremely worried now. He hastily leaves the room without looking back and dashes towards Johnny’s personal office. He stops at the door. What’s happening, he wants to know more than anybody. But calmness is dearly required. Protect my image. Kame releases a deep breathe, then goes in the large office.

“Kamenashi-san. I assume you want to meet Kitagawa-san?”

Johnny’s secretary is sitting on a desk opposite the spot Kame’s is standing. He nods without hesitation.

“Please wait a minute.”

She picks up the phone and says something… Kame can’t care less about her. He’s trying desperately to calm himself from the anxiety of thinking of what’s powerful enough to distract his friends like that. Could it be…

Jin?

“Kamenashi-san. Please come in. Kitagawa-san is waiting for you with a guest.”

A guest? Kame’s eyes twitch. Kitagawa-san never wants to have two different guests simultaneously. He prefers distinguished business, not a whole mixture of nothingness. Then why having Kame and another guest at the same time? The only reasonable explanation is that this fateful guest has something to do with KAT-TUN. And Kame is gonna find out soon enough.

*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*

“I’m here Kitagawa-san.”

Kame opens the door and walks in. The first image that hits his eyes is the familiar picture of Johnny sitting on a large comfortable sofa with a handsome guy opposite him, sipping tea. Everything looks familiar. Even the new guy. Kame tries hard to recall where he’s seen that guy before, but fails eventually because his train of thoughts is utterly distracted by Kitagawa-san.

“Good of you to join us here Kamenashi-kun. I believe I have some certain business to deal with and that business does concern KAT-TUN. I have already told your bandmates, and surely they could transfer my words to you. But I’d prefer having myself telling you what’s going to happen next.”

Kame swallows a certain bitter thing. Here it comes. The trouble of all his troubles.

“As you see, this is Akihara Itaru.”

Kitagawa-san politely indicates at the guy opposite him. The guy who is now labeled Akihara smiles. But Kame cares not. Again he directs his attention to whatever Kitagawa-san has to say.

“And Akihara-kun here is going to join KAT-TUN as the additional member, with the role of replacing Akanishi Jin-kun. Luckily for us, his name also starts with an ‘A’ so we won’t have to change KAT-TUN into something else.”

Kame freezes dead track. What the heck is happening? What the heck is the producer of Johnny & Associates saying? Such nonsense Kame doesn’t want to hear.

Replacing Jin? How can he say such word in that much of a normal speed and voice? Replacing Jin? The important member of KAT-TUN? The ‘A’ in the band? Surely there must be a mistake. Surely there is a flaw somewhere. Or could it be that Kame’s ears are not functioning well? That has to be it…

“Pardon me Kitagawa-san but I didn’t really understand what you’ve just said.”

“Oh… Let me explain this to you Kamenashi-kun. Akanishi-kun has gone to America. And there’s no solid evidence that he’s coming back. KAT-TUN cannot keep going with only 5 members. Therefore we initiate this plan for Akihara-kun to come and help for the time being.”

“But Ji… Akanishi-kun will come back. He said so in the press conference himself, didn’t he?”

“My dear Kamenashi-kun, is it alright for Akanishi-kun to say to all his fans that he’s leaving KAT-TUN to follow something else in America without coming back? Would that be okay?”

“…”

Kame can’t answer. Surely Jin couldn’t have said so to the fans. But what about his friends? His bandmates? We’re all close friends right? He was suppose to tell us what he intended to do in the future?

Kame’s legs are starting to weaken and anytime soon he will collapse. But Kame won’t let that happen. He needs to keep defending Jin.

“But Kitagawa-san… The fans know KAT-TUN as a unit of 6. And the second letter can only stand for Akanishi Jin. They won’t accept a new member to replace Jin’s position.”

“Fans are easy to manipulate. But Kamenashi-kun, that is the media’s business, sourly not yours. So why don’t you just come take Akihara-kun along with you to practice?”

“But…”

“Not ‘buts’ Kamenashi. Oh, I believe that you and Tanaka-kun have finished filming ‘Tatta Hitotsu no Koi’? And KAT-TUN will perform the theme song ‘Bokura no Machi de’? So let’s just say we’ll have Akihara’ debut this time.”

Kitagawa-san smiles as Kame’s heart aches more than ever. Indescribable anger and rage stirs up inside him, which makes him so much want to come on and punch that Akihara-whatever-his-name-is… But hiding all his feelings and protests under his well-made mask, Kame bows as Akihara stands up and follows Kame out of the room.

*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*

Smiling behind Kame, Akihara nicely starts a conversation, which Kame so much wants to stay away from.

“So I guess we’ll be bandmates from now on Kamenashi-san.”

Kame says nothing.

“I believe we’ve met before. I reckon that you remember me?”

Nothing.

“We met yesterday in the emergency alley, don’t you remember? I’m Akihara Itaru, the person who bumped into you…?”

Kame’s eyes flashed. So that’s who he is. Yesterday on their encounter, Kame was feeling something weird and fatal about this guy, but he certainly didn’t expect this. Trying to calm his feelings from both hinting on his face or burst out of his head, Kame reluctantly talks.

“Ah Akihara-kun. Now I remember.”

Kame’s voice is filled with so much bitterness and hate that even Akihara notices and decides that the best way to do business is to shut up and take it easy.

So they just walk, they keep walking along the same path which has no way out for Kame and T-TUN to escape from this fateful change. Keep walking and walking… until miracles happen.

*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-----*

“Guys… This is… Akihara Itaru. He’ll be joining KAT-TUN from this day as the second letter of our band. Let’s give him a… warm welcome.”

Kame mutters unconfidently to the rest of his friends who show symptoms of a rare disease call ‘glare’.

Akihara cringes. He wants to join KAT-TUN… but they’re obviously scaring him to death.

“Let’s practice the new formation for ‘Bokura no Machi de’ with out newcomer Akihara…”

Ueda announces lazily. Normally he would finish a name of a person when announcing his leader stuff, but today, he doesn’t even have the power to remember the name of the new guy.

… Akihara-something…

Until you return, nothing is going to change.
