Um... Very random... I just needed to write something to pick at the wall that's blocking the words.

Partners

At first, he had been a chore, like an angry lost puppy that would bite you if you got too close but desperately wanted to be told everything would go back to how it was. The kid stood out like a dark tree in a field of flowers, and the shadow only grew for a long time. He was a juvenile delinquent who got himself caged through an act of mercy, and he resented it. Resented himself, and everyone he met since the death of his brother. And the kid had fire in him, so much fire that an experienced spy was stunned when he found the partially destroyed compound.

The cocky son of a bitch quickly became the fat man’s poster boy, an investment he could show off without exactly explaining how the kid got so good. And despite his wildness, the kid had a lot of potential, a gift that could almost match his experience. Tall, with long sinewy limbs that moved with feline grace; he was different and the same as the older spy at the same time.

Under orders, the spy followed the kid around, his natural curiosity growing the more he got to see. Eventually, it became somewhat of a need rather than orders. He needed to know the kid was safe and sane, needed to know where he was and what he was doing. Where he went for breakfast, what he was reading. Personal space became less of an issue, and every time they touched was reassuring, whether it was by accident or on purpose. They would die for each other, and everyone knew it.

One day, the kid caught him watching and invited him in. And without any plans to do so, they truly became partners.
