32. Sunset
To say that Anita was anything other than whimsical was both wrong and delusional, and Kelly was usually the first person she came to when one hit her. “I wanna go see the sun set over the ocean!” She declared one day as Kelly opened the door, brushing past the woman as she entered the house and headed towards the kitchen. “You have vodka right? I know you always have rum but I prefer vodka.”
“What the hell are you doing here Anita?”
“We’re going out because you’re pestering Carolyn and she asked me to get you out of her hair and so we’re going to the beach.” Anita chirped, opening the door to Carolyn’s room/temporary office with a flourish. “Right Carolyn sweetie?”
“Carolyn!”
“You didn’t have to say it so bluntly Anita.” Carolyn sighed.
“But you called me and told me to kidnap Kelly before you went mad!”
“Anita!”
“Carolyn!”
Kelly’s betrayed look was just too much for Anita. Laughing, she frog-marched Kelly out of the room and into her car.
When the sun finally set across the water, with stripes and whorls of reds, pinks, yellows, oranges blending together seamlessly, Anita was happy to see that Kelly had finally stopped sulking. She was even happier when Kelly rested her head on her shoulder.
Gods help her, but she would never be able to give Kelly up.
