Neilli News

When I got in yesterday morning there was a message from Neilli's vet, Dr. Bissell.

He said that Neilli's blood test did not indicate that she had masticatory myositis. It is possible that she did have it at some time in the past and that now it is resolved: the only way to tell for sure is to have a biopsy done. Since that won't chage treatment (there really isn't any), or prognosis, I'm going to pass unless she goes from a chronic to acute stage.

I told him that she really likes to be scratched and rubbed on that side so I concluded this feels good to her. I have been giving her things to chew like cow snouts, lamb ears, etc., which she enjoys happily and even chews with the affected side, the idea being to exercise and possibly build up her jaw muscles on the left side. I also put her on some immune supporting supplements, which may actually be more for me than her, but hey...they can't hurt.

Dr. Bissell said these things are probably what he would do with his own dogs. He wants to see her again in a month or so to see how she's doing.

Right now she is a happy girl who has full use of her jaw, isn't in pain that I can see, and enjoys all the extra chews she's getting from Mom.

Keep Miss Neilli in your thoughts.

On what I hope is a good note, I haven't heard anything from Matt, Julie's son, about how she is doing...I am praying that no news is good news for her.

neilli, julie
