Sometimes, I wonder what people mean by "a fair wage".

Do they mean that they should make twice as much to do what amounts to untrained labor (i.e. something anyone can do after having been shown how to do it in a 20 minute demonstration) as someone who has specialized training that takes several months of concentrated 8-hours a day training to learn to do?  Or that they should make nearly as much as someone who spent years of schooling learning to manage?  Should "a fair wage" ensure that everyone in the wage earner's family can afford to buy luxuries such as iphones, high end PS3 game systems, or name brand merchandise - yes, these are luxuries, and expensive ones at that?  Should "a fair wage" be guaranteed to every person working at a company regardless of their quality of work?

I'm serious.  No offense to those who feel the need to demand/fight for such a thing, but the notion boggles me because the only time I see it applied, it appears to be wholly unfair and usually ends up costing me more money even though I'm not directly involved.
