I pretty much skipped through and only watched his scenes for the first 4-5 episodes because the rest of show didn't interest me. But then everything started coming together and by ep 6 or so, I realized that I was loving the series as a whole. It's not some sappy love story like Twilight. Any romantic stuff is laced with dark vampire drama that's actually pretty fucked up, the characters are all REALLY damaged lol.
I also really appreciate that - unlike Twilight - instead of immediately swooning over Stefan and being like "omg you're a vampire but I love you, I trust you!" Elena was like "um...wtf are you? I want nothing to do with this, stay away from me." Their relationship had to actually develop instead of just happening (and even developed, it's full of serious issues...they're never just a happy lovey dovey couple, there's always some shit going down, like when Stefan fell off the wagon and went psycho drinking human blood again). So it makes it a much more realistic story within the confines of a supernatural world, which I like a lot.
And thanks, I'm glad that my vid had such an effect on someone who's never seen the series, that's always a real compliment :o)

The thing that caught my attention was Boone playing the bad guy... I always thought that Vampire Diaries was Twilight but with two vampires instead of a vampire and a werewolf... I'm glad to know he plays an evil character, that should be interesting...

Heh yeah like I said, that was definitely my first impression. But it's not like that at ALL. Damon (Boone lol) is incredibly twisted in the beginning. He starts out as a sadistic sociopath, really putting one of Elena's friends through total hell and with little interest in anything other than destroying Stefan and Elena's lives. No conscience, no remorse, just evil.
His character evolves a lot over the season though, and by the end of s1, he's become a much better person. But then the finale throws in this major twist that had me screaming OMFG WHAT THE HELL at the screen lol. So I'm pretty confident that there's no danger of it becoming a sappy love triangle. In fact, it seems like it'll get even darker. You never know, the writers might screw it up. But I'm hoping next season will be as intriguing as the s1 finale seems to promise.
