Title: Those Little Sacrifices
Pairing: Kyuhyun/Sooyoung
Kyuhyun sat on the snow covered steps leading up to the backdoor of the SM training hall. It was 12.13 a.m. , and it was already a new year. He played around with the almost empty beer bottle, twirling it between his index and middle finger. He glanced back at the hall through the small, almost completely fogged up circular window. The cleaners were cleaning up the confetti and empty beer bottles spread out on the floor and on most of the tables. He had to admit, it was one the best new year parties yet. It had been a long year for him and the members. There were so many ups, and so many downs, it was almost too much to take. And when the grand clock let out its loudest bellow, booming throughout Seoul city, he could feel the endless amounts of weight being carried off his shoulders, just disappearing for that very moment. He felt a warmth in his heart thinking back on the smiles on their faces as Leeteuk called them in for a massive group hug. There were no tears, just a sense of comfort. "Here's to another year! We are Super Junior, forever 13 as a group and 15 as a family!" their leader shouted out, his loud voice spilling with a hope that could never die, causing the whole hall filled with artists to freeze for a while. All eyes, sparkling with awe, were on the 11 boys, huddled together. Kyuhyun had never felt more safe. But yet here he was, sitting in the icy cold, chugging down on a cheap bottle of beer that he had found on one of the tables after everyone had left.
He hadn't seen her the whole night. She was probably getting a gift for Siwon hyung, or getting ready to give him a new years kiss under a huge tree with a group of gospel singers dressed up with angel wings on their backs singing Josh Groban songs or something, he thought to himself, smirking a little. He didnt notice how hard he was gripping the bottle until he heard a little crack and noticed the rough line that had run from the tip of the bottle all the way to the base, skimming the skin on his hand on the way. "Damn it." he cursed, throwing the bottle into the bushes ahead of him. He didn't really care about mother nature right now. Then he heard the back door open, with a huge swing, and a loud slam when it closed shut. Along with the sounds of sobbing, if he wasnt mistaken. He turned around slowly, not wanting to disturb whoever was there, but the sound of the snow scraping underneath the soles of his shoes gave him away. The person, whom he could now identify as a girl, turned to face him. The soft shimmer of moonlight shone on her, making it visible for him to see the glistening tears on her face. "Soo?" he said, his voice shaking. Sooyoung slowly backed away making her way to the door quickly until he shot towards her to grab her hand, making her face him. He could see clearer now, under the dim light of the hanging lamp above them. Her swollen eyes, tears falling. He let go of her hand and stood infront of her. His fingers slowly brushing off a strand of hair that fell on her face. He didn't say a word. He knew her well, and he knew it was the exact thing to do. He watched as she winced in pain and used her thumb to press lightly on her throat. "Don't hold back your tears, it'll hurt even more." he said softly. She looked up at him, more tears collecting in the brim of her eyes. "Oppa." she said, her voice bruised. He went closer to her, wrapping his arms around her waist as she cried on his shoulder. "He was with Fanny unnie." her voice was breaking and she sounded like she was gonna fall onto the ground. He tightened his grip around her, rubbing her back comfortingly. His eyebrows furrowed. No, Siwon wouldn't actually do that..right? "What?" he managed to let out.
"He kissed her. I saw it with my own fucking eyes." her fists curled up so tight, her nails were digging deep into the flesh of her palm. "Stop it, you're gonna hurt yourself." he said coldly, unwrapping her shaking fingers. He could feel his blood boil. The urge to punch his hyung in the face was so strong that the comfort he felt earlier at 12 midnight was almost fully drained away. 2 years ago, he watched as the girl he was in love with fall deep and hard for his hyung. For the past 2 years, he hurt so much watching them hold hands backstage, accidentally running into their make-out sessions in their dorm, listening to her gush about how happy she was. Most people in his shoes would be happy that a situation like this happened. She was vulnerable, it was the perfect time to just kiss her like how he's always wanted to, make her his. But he couldn't do it. He loved her, and he wanted her to be happy, to be with somebody she was really in love with. As far as he was concerned, he wasnt that 'somebody' and that was something he had to live with. Her sobs grew quieter and sounded more like sad hums. "You tired?" he whispered in her ear. "I am. I'm tired of everything" she said with a light laugh. "Aren't we all?" he chuckled. "Thank you." she said snuggling closer to him as a large gust of freezing cold wind hit them. "No problem. Thats what-" He couldn't help but let the words get stuck in his throat. He gulped, closing his eyes. "That's what best friends are for."
It was just something he had to live with.
