One year ago today, Emily Silverstein was violently taken from us. I was at school when I heard the news...my best friend sent me a text message in all caps, and I immediately called her back. My first thought was that she had been killed in an accident or something along those lines, but that was not the case...Rachel told me on the phone that she had been murdered by her ex-boyfriend. I was in shock. It didn't really hit me that she was gone until her memorial service a few days later...or actually, it still hasn't quite hit me yet.
Emily was and is truly the most beautiful person that I have ever known. It still hurts that she is gone, and I can only hope that in my lifetime I can accomplish a fraction of what she did by the age of 19.
I love you, Em, and I know you're dancing wherever you are.
