Alex may be able to kill a monster or an attacking human with little trouble, but he can also be rather gentle. More than anything else, Alex is determined. He never once stops struggling to survive and protect the ones he cares about. When he returns to his hometown of Shepherd's Glen, he finds that his brother has gone missing, along with many other residents of the town. His father gave him his old dog tags at one point, and so Alex spent his time in treatment believing he was a soldier, that he had been wounded in battle, and that he was in a military hospital recovering from his severe wounds. When his nightmares, which he believed were prophetic but were probably due to his hidden trauma over killing his brother, grew more severe he escaped from the hospital in the dead of night] and hitched a ride back to Shepherd's Glen with a trucker, Travis Grady. So yeah... he's a complicated guy.
