got this off the inquirer this morning:

eLibrary offers 800,000 literary works

so i checked out the website and um. where exactly are these literary works? the article says they have to charge people to view certain documents, and prepaid cards are available for that, but all i see are leads to different libraries in the philippines where you can borrow the documents you're looking for. i can't even figure out how to use the "book cart" thing they have there...

also, friends in the phils: be careful going around tomorrow. i hear rumors of road spikes and human barricades during the nationwide transport strike. it could get ugly.

ETA: on a whim, i looked through this site for a possibly free copy of The Fireless Inferno, the MODERN EPIC in which we find absolute jewels like:

"The real crocodile lives in river and then you as a crocodile lives in land...Once they were caught...with prolonged staying on land without water...he would be dying...and that is exactly what will happen to you now!"
"You mean, you'll kill me?" Benjamin nervously queried.
"That's really what we will do...sorry, but we need your life!"
"If then...do it now!"
"Nay...still perchance?" Luis answered.
"Perchance? What perchance? Do you give me another chance?" He asked half afeard.

et cetera.

turns out i didn't have to. some kind soul has already uploaded the full PDF into Megaupload.

MU isn't friendly to all IPs, so here's a little tip in case you have trouble downloading from Megaupload: thevanster has shared a useful workaround with us here.

alternatively, you can get from mediafire!

part 1
part 2
part 3

since you can't upload files bigger than 100mb into MF, i had to split them into 3 .rar files. once you've downloaded everything, double-click on the part1.rar file to extract the whole thing.

make no mistake, though - i'll be buying a copy of this book, as well as other salgado titles, as soon as the opportunity arises (i.e. magtatanong ako sa mga kamag-anak ko sa baguio kung may makukuha pa silang kopya. sino gustong makisabay ng bili? XD)

mga kabayan, magkaisa tayo! let's make arnel salgado rich! prof has expensive lawsuits to pay for!
