Okonomiyaki (Japanese Pizza)

May 06, 2011 19:32

Going through the Japan Trips photos and came across this one...Japanese Pizza, called Okonomiyaki. One of the things I had heard about so while we were in Kyoto, the youngest finally humored me and we went to a Okonomiyaki restaurant for lunch. Our guide for the day was thrilled that I wanted to try one. Usually you cook your own but since it was our first time, our guide had the kitchen cook ours (so we would know what it was suppose to taste like).

Mine is the one in the front, cheese (which I suspect was really mochi) and corn. It was delicious!!!! The one on the right is the one the youngest got. That's katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes) on top. The katsuobushi is so thin that the heat coming off the grill make the flakes look like they were moving. Yes....it's was just as creepy as it sounds. She didn't really like the pizza but told our guide she did. So polite...LOL. The one on the left is the one our guide had, spinach and sour cream.
