know thyself series 1 (like)

i think about once every five years i take a mental inventory of myself, note what's changed, what remains, etc. it usually takes me about a week to find the silence within myself to do this though, so during hectic work seasons are not a fruitful time to try.

this will probably be a four or five part series of entries. some will be visible to everyone. a few may be locked until i'm done fleshing it out or ready to speak.

I like water. Anything dealing with the ocean, rain, rivers, bubbles, etc. Hot baths are my relaxations, my self-communions. I love to listen to the rain fall, the waves crash, the streams gurgle, the silence of submersion.

Sushi is my favorite food but I also love pastas and breads. Macaroni and cheese is a staple in my life, like rice is to some countries.

I love wings, winged things. Feathers, dragonflies, hawks, dragons - anything that has the ability to fly captivates me. Dragonflies are my special animal. I call them my minions and ask them to deliver messages for me. My avatar is a black gryphon. I will stop the car to watch hawks fly.

I love dark colors. Black, purple, blue, green. I find it hard to wear warm colors naturally but I do. My favorite thing to wear is a black corset with a long black skirt. Oddly enough, white t-shirts rank second on that list.

I love mythologies and religions. The ancient stories of creation and civilization fascinate and amuse me. Not surprisingly, I love books and learning. If I don't learn something new, I feel stagnant.

My favorite times of the day are sunset through night. I think best watching the stars. And watching the stars gives me comfort.

Visually, art and photography attract me. I'm a huge fan of cell animation - the Disney movies before Toy Story, etc. Mark Rothko is my favorite artist, just for his color choices. Andy Goldsworthy is second.

Music is another great like. I listen to just about anything except country, heavy metal and rap. I love little nuances - key changes, harmony slides, cadences - within a song. I listen to the lyrical quality of peoples' voices. I notice when Jeff and I speak in harmony. My love of music inspired me to learn how to dance and not be shy.

I love computers and anything related to them. I've been crawling around the internet since I was twelve. I learned how to design a website when I was thirteen. I'm not afraid to take apart a computer and like the challenge of putting it back together.

The wolf is the animal I most relate to. My affectionate nature with best friends, the mental image of a pack, canine communication - all these familiarities lead me to this animal. The fact that a wolf at the zoo chose me for a packmate is both an honor and unsurprising.

I am captivated by eyes and scents. I smell my friends, probably could identify their clothes by scent, as odd as it may sound. The scent of those I love comforts me. And I love looking at eyes, especially blue ones. The first thing I notice about someone is their eyes, second is body language and third is scent.

I am attracted to psychology, biology and paleontology. When I was a kid I wanted to be a paleontologist or a zoologist. In college, I discovered psychology and am fascinated with the effect hormones have on emotions, psychological disorders, mental development, etc.

I love simplicity. White t-shirts, less is more, etc. I'm not a material person. I regularly donate material things to keep my life simple.
