One more thing. I couldn't post this earlier in case I spoiled the surprize. But I can post it now.
A little background for those who don't know. Grid monkey is the term used for a theatre techie who tends to spend a lot of time in the light grid. They usually focus lights, change gels, etc. They climb around like monkeys in the grid. Hence the term grid monkey. Chad does this for the theatre he's doing summer stock for. He also builds and paints sets at the theatre. So, the other day I decided I wanted to make Chad a sock monkey. From the sock monkey idea I decided to make a mini sock monkey. From that I decided it needed accessories to become a grid monkey. And I decided that would hang, like a monkey, from his rearview. So while hanging out with
icyphoenix aka Monica aka Princess Sunshine, we got some stuff at the fabric store and started making stuff over fondue. We were up til 1am at her place working on the monkeys and making weird looking domo-kuns instead. Eventually a monkey was made and I went home. I spent the next day working on the accessories, while at work. I finished the project and voila... The grid monkey for my sexy grid monkey's car:
Now, after giving him the monkey, he commented about how a paint brush doesn't really work for a grid monkey. (They don't paint lights.) I put the paint brush on cause he paints sets. But he mentioned a crescent wrench would have been more appropriate. After some thought and asking which he preferred, I decided to make a mini wrench and will replace the paint brush on my next visit. I will probably have a picture of the proper grid monkey then.
Big gigantic thanks to Monica for helping with it. It would look totally retarded if it wasn't for her.
And for the record, he loved it. I love when he gets that huge "OMG how sweet and thoughtful is this" grin on his face. It's so totally worth it just to see that grin.
