Her heels are dragging; the world is white; Kairi is lost until she meets the girl made of light.
Poetry is hung from the crown of her head, the stanzas curling blonde, spilling onto bone-shoulders. She is bent over, as if in prayer, or maybe even sleeping. Her staccato screeches tremble otherwise; this angel-child is weeping.
"Don't cry." Kairi soothes, spreading a palm over her arched back; a curved, colorless expanse; treads careful butterflies down her waxen spine.
"You found me…" she is the hum of the ocean, mother-winter's bating breaths. "You've made it into this castle of dreams."
"Castle?" Kairi wonders aloud, an aria of rosemary, unheard by the hollow towers. "Are you the princess?"
"No."
The notes go sharp, the rhythm erratic. Silver hands clutch pigment-arrows, poise themselves over the hungry, paper-lips.
Will you save me, anyway?
"Is this me?" Kairi asks, of the cranberry-girl with wine swiped into her hair, shards of sea-glass in her eyes. "In the painting?"
"No."
The auburn spins into gold, the memories crumpling into a sea of diamonds. The light-girl streaks the bird-book with her tale, a story never told.
"This is us."
