i haven't updated this in a longgg time...let's see what i can cover w/out getting too boring.
last weekend in april - went to dc for the DC to Darfur rally. amazing. so many people, all really passionate about the issue. george clooney, joey cheek, barak obama, manute bol (who is a 7'6" sudanese basketball player, for those who may not know) spoke, among a lot of other people. besides that, we got to stay in DC w/ a friend, meet some cool people and have a lot of fun. plus the people i went w/ were awesome as well.
had exams, yada yada. actually did much better in my classes than i thought. but enough about school.
day that i finished school - headed to asheville/marshall to see my family/stay at katie's grandparents' mountain house w/ her, val, alicia, eric, anna and anna's friend annie. it was a relaxing few days...no tv, no computer...just books, music, beer, and the outdoors. it was almost uncomfortable sometimes to not have anything i had to do....however, that passed very quickly.
that weekend - went to my cousin (martha) and good family friend, might as well be cousin's (katie rhodes) graduations from nc state and carolina. martha started a job in charlotte two days after graduation and katie starts grad school (where she'll also get her doctorate...weird - dr. katie rhodes...) in august at UT at the campus in memphis. i'm proud of both of them. makes me realize i need to start figuring out what the hell i'm doing after graduation. (probably more school, haha.)
went back to gboro for a night (after an interesting trip home in my poor little car...completely dead battery, had to call AAA and all that, dad drive my car back in that crazy hail storm, mom and grandmommy following. yes, i was freaking out. give me tornado weather + driving, or riding, in traffic, and i start to go a little crazy.) spent sunday night w/ rudy since i really had not seen him in about a week.
packed, monday got the car fixed and alex and i drove down to raleigh to stay at andrea's (so alex could take me to the airport the next morning). as always it was nice spending time w/ those two, they're pretty awesome and i'll miss them in the fall.
(this is getting long and boring...)
tuesday the 16th - flew to miami to stay at my sister/brother - in - law/nephew's until june 6. i'll be nathaniel's (nephew) nanny until my sister finishes w/ the school year (she's a high school biology teacher.)
we're having a good time. nathaniel (3 and 1/2) is a ham. it's hard to discipline/get mad at him b/c he's so cute, even when he's being bad.
i wasn't home for rudy or ashley's 21st birthdays, and i feel bad. however i know (and hope) they understand and i know we'll make up for it when i get back (hehe.)
i want to read books this summer. i have to read three for my online "women, war, and terror" second session summer course. (three guineas - virgia woolf, journey into the whirlwind - ginzberg, seed of sarah - isaacson....anyone read these? if so, how are they?) anyone have any other good book suggestions?
i want to write letters and send fun things in the mail!! if you want to be a pen pal, let me know.
i've also been craving excersize (which i'm surprised by.) however here, it's kind of hard...i can't go to a gym, and believe me, working out outside is out of the question...if you know miami heat in the summer, you know what i mean...) but my sister has some pilates tapes that i may start doing. i just have no energy, i'm getting a little sick of it.
i leave for finland in 12 weeks. that's really not that long. eeeeek!
my sister's best friend had her first son this week at only 26 weeks. he's doing well so far, though he's only 1lb 10ounces. so, keep him in your thoughts, and if you pray, say one for him.
my sister also has a student that is going through some pretty rough stuff right now, stuff that you would probably never even imagine going through (and she's only 15.) so again, please keep her in your thoughts, and pray for her if you'd like.
i guess that's it. when i get back in town i'd like to hang out w/ as many people as possible, fill up my summer w/ friends before i leave. yay!
well, this got long and boring, but....sorry!
