Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead

After two years on the run, best friends Rose, half-human/half-vampire, and Lissa, a mortal vampire princess, are caught and returned to St. Vladimir's Academy. Up until then, Rose had kept Lissa safe from her enemies; school, however, brings both girls additional challenges and responsibilities. How they handle peer pressure, nasty gossip, new relationships, and anonymous threats may mean life or death. Likable narrator Rose hides doubts about her friend behind a tough exterior; orphan Lissa, while coping with difficult emotional issues such as depression and survivor's guilt, uses her emerging gifts for good.

I was not looking for another vampire series. I had convinced myself that I was actually over vampires... And then adair7 rec'd this series and I had to give it a try. Granted, there are four books out in the series right now and I'm only halfway through the third, but it is just addicting.

Rose is an amazing heroine. With her strength, her attitude and her courage, you could hardly compare her to the other female characters in vampire series I've read. Bella, Sookie, hell, even some of the ladies of the BDB would cower in Rose's presence. Beyond the main characters, as always, there is the regular teenage angst and love stories that I find myself attracted to over and over again. The VA series offers a familiar story of vampires (hiding in society) but who, because of their low numbers and precious royal blood, rely on half-blooded human/vampires to protect them. IDK, I know it may sound crazy but it took me all of 20 pages to get sucked into this mythology.

If you still enjoy good, young adult vampire fiction, still enjoy the forbidden temptation that they have to offer, then the Vampire Academy series is one you should try. Enjoy ♥
