Lights. War Au

There’s something morbidly beautiful at the bombs that light up the sky on the battle field.

Ryeowook watches them from the sidelines, his unfortunate home fallen to the siege of battle. There’s shooting explosions in the night now instead of stars, and Ryeowook wonders if there will be such a thing as stars when this is all over.

The soldier sitting on his porch coughs scarlet onto the wooden floor below him and Ryeowook sighs, shifting his eyes from the debris falling too close to his home for comfort to wipe the blood from the man’s cheeks.

“What mess have we gotten ourselves into this time, Jongwoon?”

Jongwoon just shakes his head, eyes bleary with fever but a small smile curls on his lips as he grabs for Ryeowook’s hand on his cheek, pressing it to his lips instead.

Jongwoon’s blood runs warm down Ryeowook’s hand, and the sky behind Ryeowook’s eyes is black as they flutter shut.

Time. Fantasy Au

Time passes slow for Jongwoon.

Sometimes it feels that hundreds of years have passed when he can barely blink, the Earth circling its sun for more times than he cares to count.

He does enjoy watching, though.

He sits in front of his small pool and brushes his fingers over the surface, watching their evolution now and again, their mistakes and successes. Sliding between the future and the past with a flick of his wrist, cataloging in order as is his duty.

A wing brushes his shoulder and he smiles to see Ryeowook appear beside him, the young messenger smiling at him vibrantly. The pool in front of him ripples and time skips a beat in time with his heart, and Jongwoon doesn’t hesitate when thin fingers curl around his own and pull him away from the pool.

There is something he enjoys watching more.

Sunset. Fast Food Restaurant Au

Ryeowook nearly groans aloud when he walks out of McDonalds and sees Jongwoon leaning against the wall, grinning like he’s won the lottery.

As far as Ryeowook can see, he’s only won a more than slightly cranky and disgusting boyfriend.

“Don’t look so happy to see me,” Jongwoon smiles when Ryeowook stomps towards him, usual tinge of embarrassment lighting his cheeks when Jongwoon grabs him around the waist before he can escape to his car. “We’re going out tonight.”

“No we aren’t,” Ryeowook snaps, attempting to weasel out of Jongwoon’s arms. He’s more tired than anything and is sure he smells less than appealing after working his six hour shift, awful visor still perched on his head. “I just want to go home and shower, I’ve had to reside in a place of evil and I need to cleanse myself of it.”

“Not tonight you don’t,” Jongwoon grins, effectively ignoring Ryeowook’s complaints and plucking the visor out of his hair before letting go of the younger’s waist in favor of tangling their fingers together, dragging him in the direction of the pier. “We’re going to do something fun.”

Ryeowook sighs and recognizes the lilt to Jongwoon’s voice that means he isn’t going to get out of this one. Not that he especially wants to, he admits, because he really does love doing just about anything with Jongwoon. Though he usually would draw the line at being dragged around in public while practically advertising that he works at a place of absolute evil that ruins his skin and barely pays mcminimum wage.

Ryeowook is so lost in thought that he nearly runs straight into the wood barrier of the pier, Jongwoon stopping suddenly to lean over and look at the fish, grinning back at Ryeowook.

Ryeowook sometimes wonders why in the world Jongwoon stays with him.

He doesn’t have time to think, though, because soon enough Jongwoon is nearly uncomfortably close to him again, pleasantly warm at his side and wrapping an arm around his shoulders. Ryeowook thinks he should say something but Jongwoon just shakes his head and points out, the final lights of the sun coloring the water beneath them myriads of red, yellow, and orange.

Ryeowook is so engrossed in it that he nearly doesn’t notice when Jongwoon brushes his much too long bangs away from his forehead and presses his lips against it softly the way he knows Ryeowook absolutely hates, insisting that Ryeowook is perfect to him every time the younger brings it up. Ryeowook turns his head to protest yet again when Jongwoon covers his lips with his own, smiling at how Ryeowook tastes of overly sugary soda, holding him tighter until Ryeowook melts against him.

“In a better mood now?” He teases when Ryeowook won’t meet his eyes after, punching him lightly in the side in favor of answer. Ryeowook smiles when Jongwoon laughs, though, and he completely how much he hates his plain old life when he watches Jongwoon’s eyes crinkle when he grins, and doesn’t even mind when Jongwoon tucks his bangs behind his ears for good.

He supposes it’s what love does to people.

Sick. Having Children Au

Ryeowook wonders if getting sick is going to be a family affair from now on.

Jongwoon and Kyuhyun are looking equally pitiful buried under quilts together on the couch in front of the tv when Ryeowook walks in the door, and Ryeowook thinks he could drown in the sheer amount of tissues littering the floor.

Ryeowook sighs and prays to whatever deity is listening that he won’t be dragged into this as well, hefting up Kyuhyun when he reaches for him from his perch on Jongwoon’s lap. Ryeowook smooths Jongwoon’s hair back to feel for fever and Jongwoon hums at Ryeowook’s cool hand on his warm skin. Ryeowook sighs, Kyuhyun beginning to cry on his shoulder as he curls into him.

“You aren’t the toddler here,” Ryeowook says when Jongwoon turns his pitiful eyes on him, chuckling slightly at how Jongwoon droops and kissing him on the cheek in apology. “Let me take care of this one first then, you overgrown child.”

Jongwoon laughs slightly before it turns into a cough and Ryeowook smiles as he tucks Kyuhyun back into his bed, his usually talkative son favoring glaring at him for setting him down and interrupting his napping in the first place. Ryeowook stays until he falls into a fitful sleep, singing softly and smoothing away Kyuhyun’s unruly hair, a small smile on the little boy’s face when he sleeps.

Ryeowook sighs when he finds Jongwoon asleep again on the couch, poking him on the cheek where a tissue has gotten stuck.

“Off to bed with you too,” Ryeowook grins as Jongwoon looks at him blearily, letting Ryeowook shoo him off to bed. Ryeowook feels a sense of déjà vu as he runs his hand through Jongwoon’s hair and speaks quietly until the older man drifts off, smiling softly before he goes to find some soup for his ill family.

Getting the two of them up to eat soup hours later is a nightmare as well, and Ryeowook wonders not for the first time if Jongwoon and Kyuhyun really are secretly related. When they’re finally relatively better, Ryeowook lets himself pass out, Kyuhyun and Jongwoon curled together as he edges closer to the edge of the bed, attempting to avoid germs.

Ryeowook wakes up sick as a dog and Jongwoon has to all but carry him to make him leave the bed, cool hand keeping the bangs out of his face. Kyuhyun thinks all of this is hilarious and laughs hysterically from his spot in the center of Jongwoon and Ryeowook’s bed.

Ryeowook thinks of what a family picture they’d make at that moment, and he can’t help but laugh too.
