Kyuhyun walks out his apartment everyday in bright hours of the morning to get his mail, a habit he settled upon after forgetting to get it for a record three weeks and missing his internet bill.
Those were dark days.
From then on he made it his mission to get his mail everyday of the week in order to pay all those things called bills that had previously been paid by his parents until he moved out on his own after college.
Being an engineering major, sadly, does not teach one many real life skills. A pity as while it means that Kyuhyun can do math up, down, backwards and sideways, his social life barely has a pulse.
Therefore his mail generally consists of bills, bills, the occasional strange magazine that offers to tell him the secrets of mind blowing sex, and more bills.
Which explains his surprise when among the khaki colored envelops denoting bills, there is a large piece of floral stationary stuffed in and practically radiating sunshine. The address notes it to be from two doors down, and he stares at it puzzlingly for a few moments before tucking it under his arm with the rest and chucking it on his kitchen table among the scores of spreadsheets and leaves it there until dinner.
And then he glances at the looping script before promptly chucking it in the trashcan and warming up day old Chinese take out.
Three days later there is a knock on his door, forcing him to pause a game of Star Craft, and when he answers the door he’s barely managed to grunt out dome form of words before he is assaulted by the sunshine that is the man’s smile.
“How can I help you?” Kyuhyun grunts in a way that should clearly be interpreted to leave him alone so he can go back to hunching over his laptop and flinching whenever the lights turn on.
“You,” The man points at him and Kyuhyun finds himself surprised to have to look up, rarely meeting someone taller and lankier than himself. “Never answered my letter.”
Kyuhyun stares blankly back for a moment, ready to write the tall man off as an escape from the loony bin before remembering the obnoxious letter from earlier in the week. “You mean that flowery thing? Well it didn’t even have a name on it, what did you expect?”
The man flails around briefly before settling his hands on his hips and throwing a weak glare Kyuhyun’s way. “That would be the purpose of reading to the end of the letter Kuixian. Wait, you didn’t read it did you.” It’s a statement more than a question and Kyuhyun shrugs, figuring it didn’t really warrant an answer.
“Wait, how do you know my name?” Or at least a bastardization of it’s Chinese form, but he’s willing to be flexible on the fine details when it appears he can add stalker to his strange neighbors quirks.
“But Kuixian, don’t you remember me?” He looks nearly scandalized for a moment, and Kyuhyun quickly racks his memory banks before coming up blank and letting his gaze speak for him. “It’s Zhou Mi; I sat next to you in statistics!”
Kyuhyun lets the reigning silence speak for him.
“You just don’t pay attention to any of your surroundings, do you?” Zhou Mi shakes his head before walking past Kyuhyun and into his apartment, plopping down at his table and crossing his legs before looking back up.
“When it’s necessary I do!” Kyuhyun feels slightly offended but can genuinely not remember Zhou Mi, and begins to worry about his sanity. “And why are you in my apartment? I don’t even know you!”
“Because you owe me coffee.” Zhou Mi says it likes it’s the most obvious thing in the universe and Kyuhyun feels like he’s clearly missing something. “You’ve owed me it for two years; I’m just putting in my order now.”
“I owe you nothing you crazy person, I just want to drink my coffee and finish my game of Star Craft before I need to go to work.” Kyuhyun grumbles as he pours a second cup of coffee anyway, figuring this is all probably a dream and he will wake up drooling all over his keyboard in a matter of moments anyway, so he may as well roll with the punches. “Now what is it in this letter of yours that was so important for me to read?”
Kyuhyun takes a sip of the warm coffee as Zhou Mi appears to mull it over, before smiling like liquid sunshine and answering. “Nothing really, I just wanted to tell you that I am very much in love with you.”
Kyuhyun spits his coffee all over the table, stands up, trips over his chair leg, chokes on air, and passes out.
Zhou Mi sighs as he nurses his own coffee, muttering to himself as he holds back a small laugh.
“Well I suppose that could have gone better.”
…
Kyuhyun wakes up slightly disoriented and sprawled awkwardly on his sofa and curses himself for falling asleep while playing video games again as that clearly gives him strange dreams about leggy Chinese men being in love with him.
“Oh Kuixian, you’re awake! I tried playing your game of Space Ship for you, but I think I may have lost.” Zhou Mi is looking at him with wide eyes and a slight pout and Kyuhyun blinks slowly.
Zhou Mi grins. Kyuhyun screams.
…
Kyuhyun wakes up in a sweat when the light is just barely streaming through the curtains and groans.
“Oh my God Kuixian, would you stop screaming already? Some of us actually need beauty sleep.” Zhou Mi mumbles into the pillow and snakes his arm around Kyuhyun’s waist to yank him back down against the mattress. “What was your nightmare about?”
“It was when I met you, because you’re such a creepy stalker that even my dreams aren’t free of you.” Kyuhyun grumbles as his face is smashed into Zhou Mi’s collarbone, warm fingers playing along his spine.
“Well considering you forgot about me and then made me go through the trouble of courting you through threats of a restraining order, I’d say it’s only right that I get to haunt your daily life!” Zhou Mi teases as he attaches himself back to Kyuhyun and pokes his ribs.
“That is because you are and always will be a creepy stalker. Now go back to bed sleeping beauty, wouldn’t want you to lose that pretty face.”
“Yes Mother.”
“Ah ah! That’s incest.”
“Kuixian!”
“Zhou Mi.”
“I really hate that I love you.”
“I know.”
“That was not the correct response to that.”
“Well I hope you weren’t expecting a star studded confession.”
“I was in fact, I hope you know that.”
“Well you aren’t getting it.”
“I know.”
Zhou Mi shoves Kyuhyun off the bed, and things continue on as normal.
