We've been having water intermittently for the last couple of days, mainly during night. It's just a trickle, really, and the pressure is so low that it only reaches the first floor bathroom and sometimes the kitchen. But hey, who's complaining. We've been able to wash the dishes, to store drinking water and even to use the washing machine.
And, miracle of miracles, yesterday morning the pressure was enough to carry the trickle of water up to the second floor bathroom... that's the one that has a shower so I WAS ABLE TO TOOK A SHOWER FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 9 DAYS!!
It's really amazing that it takes an earthquake to really appreciate things we usually take for granted, like opening the tab and having water coming down from it.
Being able to wash both hands at the same time, too. Because when you only have water stored in bottles, you wash one hand at the time: the other hand is holding the bottle, of course.
Anyway, things are slowly returning to normal. Some stores and supermarkets that haven't been looted are opening, and people are starting to go back to work. I thought about it yesterday, but a neighbor told me there are HUGE traffic jams all over the city, precisely because people are going back to work and, since the public transportation is still scarce, they have to use the cars.
He tried to reach his job and after being stuck on a traffic jam for two hours (he didn't even get close to Concepción) he almost ran out of gasoline, so he had to go to one of the endless lines in front of a gas station to get more. When he finally got it, it was so late that he had to go back home.
In light of that situation, I've decided to wait before going back to work. Perhaps tomorrow.
I feel pretty proud of my city and my country raising again, even with all the difficulties.
In other related news, I heard on the TV today that the earthquake was so powerful that it actually moved the whole city 10 feets to the west. Santiago also moved and even Buenos Aires, in Argentina!!!
Again, I'm amazed at the sheer power of nature. I'm amazed that we were almost at the epicenter of that power unleashed and we survived to tell it. Wow.
