Well, I'm back. In fact, Rodri and I arrived to our house last sunday, and yesterday I just spent my day trying to recover from those inhumanly long walks all over the hot streets of Buenos Aires. ^_^
We had a great time. Sometimes I complained and regretted we decided not to take one of those pay tours, but in the end, I'm happy that we decided to move in Buenos Aires on our own. We got lost a couple of times, but Rodri has mastered the difficult art of asking for directions (I'm not joking. I simply can't approach a stranger to ask for help!) and after the first couple of days we started to skillfully navigate the endless combinations of "colectivos" (Buses) and "subte" (the subway). We had a map and a guide to all the interesting places of Buenos Aires, divided by districts or neighbourhoods so we visited one everyday. Even so, we weren't able to cover half of the stuff the guide had, because Buenos Aires is full of places to visit and stuff to do.
But we did went to all the places we wanted to go and our system of wandering on our own in the city made us see all the sides of Buenos Aires: the nice, beautiful side that tourists usually see and the side that's mostly hidden: the dirty streets, the poverty, the little kids selling stuff on the streets, the poor mothers sitting in the stairs at the entry of the big buildings with three dirty kids, trying to escape the heat of the afternoon.
And because we got to see both sides, I ended up absolutely in love with the city and its contrasts. I really, really was sad when I had to leave.
People were almost always really nice to us, except for bus drivers that apparently are universally mean (and I thought they were like that only in Chile, but argentinian bus drivers are WORSE). We took A LOT of pictures and I'm going to post some of them soon... but for now I think I'll try to catch up with all that happened on my f-list these 10 days. Sorry if I don't comment on every post, but I'll try to at least read them all.
