A good start

It was a great New Year.
Rodri and I rented a car and we went to my parent’s for dinner. Besides my parents, there were two uncles, a grand-aunt, a cousin, my younger sister Camila, her boyfriend and my brother. Sadly my nephews were in Linares with their father and Fabiola, my other sister, was in Viña del Mar with her new boyfriend. But we had a wonderful time nonetheless.
After dinner we decided to go see the fireworks. So Rodri went to get his parents and sibilings and I was supposed to go with my family. BUT of course my mom, being... well, a mom, decided she HAD to do the dishes before leaving.
It was 11.30 when we finally went out... and of course we didn’t make it! Near the Costanera (the place when the firework were going to be set off) there was a HUGE traffic jam and the police closed the highway just a minute before we arrived.
So we spend the New Year there, with dozens of other stranges that we also leaved their houses too late... And it was really fun! XD
My uncle turned on the radio of his SUV at full volume and so we were able to follow the contdown. At midnight we all hugged, made a toast and when our national anthem began to come out from the speakers, I got all emotional and started to sing it too, out loud an standing on the back of my other uncle's truck. A gentleman that was with another group started to sing with me... XD
And then the fireworks began.
And we discovered that the traffic jam put us in a privileged position. True, we weren’t that close, but we can saw prefectly not only Concepción’s fireworks, but also Talcahuano’s and Lenga’s (two nearby cities).
My cousin and I were in the back of her father’s truck with glasses of champagne in our hands, watching the fireworks while we toasted for our new year’s resolutions: To have a 2007 as successful as 2006 (she also works teaching, although she’s a lawyer).
“Of course it will be successful” I told her. “And some day I’m going to be the first female rector of my University”
“Of course you will! And I will be president of the Supreme Court and toghether we will dominate both this country’s superior education AND justice”, she said.
And we joined our glasses again. Here's to our dreams coming true some day. ^_^
The only bad part was that Rodri and his family were stuck in other part of the traffic jam (yes, his mom also wanted to do the dishes -_-;;) and not being with him made me a little sad, but when we returned to my parent’s house he was waiting for me there to give me my big New Year hug. ♥
A while later we decided to go back home... and on our way back another car crashed with us!!!
It wasn’t our fault, I swear! We stop at a red light and five seconds later BANG! The car behind us hit us. Our RENTED car. I felt myself go pale as a ghost, Rodri looked on the verge of a heart attack when he bolted out of the car to check the damages, that were...
NONE!
Yes, none. Wonderful little car, it barely had some scratches below the left headlight. The other car, that was bigger than ours, got a nasty dent in the bumper. The driver was a woman of like 55 years old that was pretty scared too. She said the car slipped on the wet road (it was raining a little) and my guess is she probably didn’t see our car braking.
Oh, yes, it was a night full of emotions. ^_^
And the next day, under a radiant summer sky, we went to the beach with my parents, my younger sister and her boyfriend, Rodri’s sibilings and two of our friends, Soledad and Daniel.
That was just LOVELY. I spend the whole day laying on the warm sand, in the sun, reading and chatting... I finally was able to enjoy this elusive summer... although the price I paid was high: Now my legs, arms, shoulders and back have a not so nice red color that make me look kinda like an oversized shrimp. And it hurts, dammit!
But it was so worth it! XD
