FYEAH Spring Break!

Apr 01, 2012 04:38

Very glad for a week off university! Even though it means that I'll have no more excuses such as "homework", "presentations" & "tests" to delay writing my term paper. Which is a good thing since we have to hand in the draft by the end of April. But I'd also rather just chill & watch all the shows that I've been meaning to watch. Like catch up on GA & PP. Or Shameless. Or start PLL! I mean, I'm gonna do that anyway, among other holiday stuff, but one of these days, I'd like NOT to have to balance work & play all the time. SIGH.

Also, I miss Revenge like I miss warm summer days. This show always gives me so many feelings, and I need that back in my life because quite frankly, it's been AGES. Why has everything I love left me until mid-April?

ALTHOUGH, the hiatus does make the perfect time to check out the show if you still haven't. *wink, wink*    I know, I know, there are many shows desperate for your attention out there, but I love Revenge so much that I'm willing to make a case for it!

FYI: You may have already considered watching, but it already has 16 episodes out, and you're busy! Well, Revenge doesn't return until April 18th, so still a lot of time to catch up. Bonus!selling point: it comes back with 6 consecutive episodes leading straight into the finale - no more breaks - which, awesome. Can't remember the last time any of my non-cable shows did that. Also, the show is about to get renewed, which eliminates cancellation!heartbreak if you get invested. If you're in the US, ABC made all the eps available online. Fellow non-US residents, we may not be as lucky, but you know who your dealers are. ;)

YOU MAY ENJOY REVENGE IF...

1. You either believe in getting back at those who wronged you, OR don't think consider revenge the best policy at all. The best thing about the show is how self-aware it is that while revenge may bring certain satisfaction, it can also be very destructive first & foremost for the person who carries it out.

2. You find morally ambiguous protagonists and antagonists compelling to watch. I like the way Revenge shows many sides to Emily, and you can either agree or disagree with her individual life choices, but still can't help rooting for her. Her nemesis Victoria also has some redeeming qualities, and the show offers her perspective very clearly, so you get to make your own conclusions as to her past and current actions.

3. You appreciate when a show does not revolve around its love triangle. In agnes_bean's words, Revenge does have one, but goes about it in a non-tiresome way instead of being all about it, which is refreshing. It also passes the Bechdel Test with flying colours, i.e., men are not the subject of all conversations between women. ;)

4. You enjoy learning the backstory of the characters from flashbacks. I think they're doing a great job with this, starting with one of my favourites - "Emily meets Nolan" - right there in the Pilot. Apparently, more amazing ones are in store for us, including one episode set in a flashback & flashing back to an even earlier time while it's at it. Should be fun!

5. You like discovering unique characters! Nolan Ross, played by Gabriel Mann, was probably what ultimately sold me on the show, ngl. He's just so many things, starting with his hilarious one-liners & fashion statements which make him a misfit in the overdressed Hamptons crowd - and ending with his deep affection for the people he cares about and willingness to go dark places for them.

Nolan has chemistry with pretty much all of the characters, but his dynamic with the protagonist Emily in particular is riveting. Their banter is always fun to watch, and when they clash, oh, it's a heartbreaker (THEIR EMOTIONS; YOUR HEART), but they end up gravitating back in search of reconciliation every. single. time. because despite their differences, all they have left in the world is each other. This is one of the reasons I unapologetically ship it outside of the main triangle.

YOUTUBE WON'T LET ME EMBED, SO CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE FIRST 9 MINUTES
OF THE PILOT, WHICH WILL SHOW YOU EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE IN FOR. :D

NB: The Top comments are safe; but RED SPOILER ALERT for the rest!
Trust me, you'll want to find out the outcome from the show.

I also like this promo they did for the Aussie premiere, which also showcases how good-looking the cast is:

This song always makes me think of Revenge now, love it.

GUYS. Watch the show and come talk to me about it?
Rescue me from the blazing fires of hellatus!

... cause Twitter isn't helping at all. Apparently, yesterday was the S1 finale table read, and the cast proceeded to be teases tweeting how it'll be more shocking than ever & made their heads explode. Crazy twists & turns are a natural order of business for Revenge, so I'm VERY interested to know what Mike could have possibly come up with to trump all the stuff that has already happened!

At the same time, I'm also dreading the finale b/c I've no idea what I'll do with myself over the summer hiatus without these people on my screen?? I mean, they're in the middle of a routine scene blocking, and Em's all "I'm a srs professional" but GABE JUST HAD TO SMILE ME THAT SMILE & SET MY EMOTIONS ON FIRE:

Gorgeous life-ruiners, what have you done to my existence.

gabriel mann, revenge cast, revenge: the best show ever, miss flailing about my show, emily vancamp
