I had wanted to post this yesterday, but sadly I was a bit preoccupied with being discouraged with my "fellow man". Say what you will about Wally-mart but yesterday our co-mangers came over the intercom and invited everyone to spend a moment in silence remembering those who have died for us. They even did their best to turn off the store music for that one single small moment of the day.
How many people do you think I saw take that moment with me?
Not a single bloody ungrateful one of them. If anything they were louder for the lack of music to cover their petty desires for 'those pants with that pocket thingy'
*sigh* I'd weep for humanity, but they aren't worth it.
In Flanders Fields By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army
IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
