So, yesterday we were in mass. And our priest, whose name I unfortunately can never remember, was giving homily. I can't quite remember the gospel reading, nor the exact things he said, but undoubtedly faith was brought up. And I started thinking about my own faith, or lack thereof, or whatever. Yes, I think there is a God, yes, I (sometimes) believe in him, but I still will not return to the Catholic Church to which I was raised, nor commit to other religions. I don't think of God as a Christian God, Jewish God, or even one of the many Hindu Gods. They're all the same, everyone worships the same higher power, just in different practices and give said higher power different names. But yes, I was thinking about the Catholic Church and my faith. And I started thinking about the reason why I won't return to it. And it's quite simple:: I don't agree with the views and interpretations of the followers. God did not tell us what to do, how to live, or what laws to give it. Popes and Vatican Councils got together and decided what would be best and what they thinkg God would want them to do. Yes, perhaps God -did- give revelations to people, but they were only miracles to show that yes, he's there. We live off of interpretations and laws made by man. The closest thing we have are the Bible and the Ten Commandments. And personally, I think that the Ten Commandments alone are basis enough to live on. We don't need anything else. And then I started thinking about how close the Church and our government are. Politicians and legislatures -interpret- what they think that the Founding Fathers want for us. Like God, we cannot knock on George Washington and Thomas Jefferson's door, asking what they wanted for us. That, I believe, is the root of corruption. We have laws to live by, religious or federal, based on what others thought what was best based on what -they- personally believe. Why do we try and play God with our own lives? We try and rule each other, and for what? Power? Power is possibly the most corrupt thing to come out of Pandora's box. It can ruin the most humble and kind of people.
I don't think I wanna live in a world like this, but we can't change it. Human nature will never change. So it's best to just live -your- life, how -you- want it. Granted, these are just my opinions about the Catholic Church, because it's the relgion I've been raised about. I'm sure there are religions that are good and bad, depending on your perspective of them. In the end, we all live in the same world, we're all going to go to the same place when we die, whether it's merely six feet under or a higher state of being. Either way, why bother being the asshole on the roadtrip of life? People are just going to want to throw you out of the car and leave your ass there.
