Title: Dreaming Back to This
Rating: R
Genre: AU, sci-fi, suspense
Chapter: Set in Motion (31/?)
Pairings: YooMin, HoSuJae
Summary: Changmin's running from a past he can't forget. Yoochun's running towards a future he can't see. Two people, seemingly on separate paths, collide. What starts in dreams…
Warnings: Graphic torture, character death
Notes: So, for those of you who don't have my journal friended and so don't get my regular entries - This fic, as I've been saying for the last couple chaps, is really starting to wrap up. In fact, as long as I stick to the outlines I have written out, there will be exactly 3 more chapters after this one. Yes, that's right; there will officially be 34 chaps in this story. Then a bit of a break before the sequel. So… be patient for just a little longer, yes? ^_^ On that note, the few chapters from here on out will be based more on the events/outline and less on the word count, so some may be slightly shorter or longer, just depending on what I need to get done in it.

Chapter 31: Set in Motion

He connects with Hyunae first.

"Would love to stick around and chit-chat," she starts once they're both fully in the dream, "but you're going to have a lot of work to do tonight. So, important information: I'll connect you to the first guard. He'll be the one at the tunnel gate, probably the most crucial to you guys getting into the building."

Yoochun nods, taking in any extra help she can give him. "And from there?"

"From there, it should be relatively easy. All the guards in the building maintain a psychic connection. That way, if anything happens, they're more quickly informed than any kind of alarm or intercom system could ever do. As long as you stay in their subconscious, shifting through their dreams, you're good to go. You'll be able to switch from one to another and on from there, but they'll never even realize you're using that connection against them." She pauses, cocking her head to the side. "You have a really intriguing talent there, Yoochun. I just hope that, once the Centre has been taken down then refocused on its original intent of helping people, you'll consent to coming in so we can figure out more about what you do."

Blinking once, Yoochun stares at her for a long moment. "I… I'm not sure. I mean, we have to focus on Min first. I… get the feeling he won't be in the best shape once we get him out of here. And he's always going to be my first priority, no matter what happens."

"Of course. I wouldn't expect anything less. The two of you have an amazing bond, and I would never want to get in the middle of that. It's just something for you to consider, once all of this is over." She smiles, taking his hands in hers. "Now, are you ready to start this rescue plan?"

It's a feeling somewhere between floating and falling. He can't really describe it, but Yoochun knows he's moving. And when he stops, a man stands in front of him, looking around the space in confusion. "You must be the gate-guard for the tunnels into the Centre," Yoochun observes, smirking.

The man spins to face Yoochun with a suspicious. "Who the hell're you? And why do you wanna know?"

"Who I am isn't important," Yoochun replies. "And I want to know because you're going to help me break into that hell-hole so I can get to my boyfriend and my best friend."

"And why would I do something like that?"

Yoochun grins. "Because I said so."

He repeats the scene several times over, issuing orders to countless guards. The last one, the floor guard, gives him Jaejoong and Changmin's exact location just before Yoochun sets his final commands. Yoochun scribbles down the information as soon as he wakes up, complete with a rough sketch of the building's lay-out. Instead of an 'X' marking the spot, Yoochun indulges his sentimental side with a small heart over Jaejoong and Changmin's room.

Once he's done, he traces over the heart with a gentle fingertip then looks up to find Junsu and Yunho staring at him. "It's all set for tonight. We'll be able to get in at exactly 11:30. I've arranged it so that, as long as we keep an eye on our schedule, we should be able to get in and out without running into a single guard."

The other two smile at him, albeit somewhat anxiously. Yoochun glances down at their linked hands before looking back up, wishing he had his own someone's hand to hold. Though, judging by the way Junsu's free hand clutches at empty air on his other side, Yoochun suspects they're missing someone, too. "So, you really think we'll be able to do this?" Yunho asks.

Yoochun sighs, hesitating just slightly. "I think… it's the best chance we've got. I think waiting, at this point, can't do any more for us. And I definitely think that leaving Jaejoong and Changmin there for any longer than absolutely necessary would be the biggest mistake. So we just have to do our best with it." He pauses and looks at the clock. "We should get going. Tessa will be waiting."

Tessa is, indeed, waiting for them by the time they get up and to the hospital. She sits on her hospital bed, dressed in the new clothes the boys had bought for her, discharge papers signed and ready to go. She pushes up to her feet, obviously with some discomfort still from her injuries, and smiles. "About time. I was starting to think you guys were just going to leave me here."

Junsu immediately crosses the room to her side, taking her arm to help support her weight. She smiles up at him, thankful, and they slowly make their way out of the room. Yoochun and Yunho stay close by, just in case they need any extra help as they leave the hospital. "Of course we wouldn't leave you here, Tess," Yunho says as he lightly ruffles her hair. She scowls a bit at the response, and he grins. "We were just a little bit late because Yoochun was finishing up a few… details."

Yoochun rushes ahead to flag down a taxi, and Tessa settles into the leather seat with a quiet sigh. Once they're all piled into the car and on the way back to the hotel, Tessa brings up the subject again. "So you guys have your plan all finished up and ready to go now? When are you making the move?"

"Tonight," Junsu replies. "We have to be there at 11:30."

"I'm going with you."

All three of them immediately protest. "You can barely move, Tessa," Yunho objects. "We just got you out of the hospital. It'd be better if you just stay at the hotel and not run the risk of landing yourself right back in again."

She shakes her head, jaw set in a stubborn line and arms crossed over her chest. "I don't care. I'll stay with the car, then. But I have to be there. I'm not entirely sure why yet, but I do know that I have to be there. You guys can't talk me out of this."

The three boys trade a look but don't argue any further with the determined girl in the front seat.

Changmin lays on the bed, curled on his side and staring blankly at the wall. Yoochun approaches slowly and sits down on the other side. He avoids actually making any contact with Changmin, not relishing the idea of a repeat of their last meeting. He aches with the need to reach out and hold Changmin to him, but he represses the urge. "Changmin?"

Rolling over to face Yoochun, Changmin forces a tiny smile. "Hi, Yoochunnie." He reaches out, almost touches Yoochun's hand, then lets his hand just hover in the air for a long moment before pulling back again. He glares down at the bedding. "I hate that I can't make myself do this. I hate that I can't touch you."

Yoochun just watches him, trying to think of something - anything - he can do to make it better. "What happened, Minnie? What are you not telling me?"

Shaking his head, Changmin rolls over again and continues staring at the wall. "I can't tell you. I don't know if I've even really admitted it to myself yet. I haven't said it. And I just… can't right now. Maybe later, once we're out of here and safe again. When there aren't so many other things to worry about. But not now, Yoochunnie. Don't make me think about it now."

"Okay, Minnie. We don't have to talk about it now." Yoochun swings his legs up, lays down on his side of the bed and stares at the back of Changmin's head. "And we'll be there soon, okay? We've got a plan in place, and we'll be moving on it tonight. Then we'll be back together again for real."

Changmin closes his eyes, a lone tear leaking out and dripping off the tip of his nose.
