[fic poetry] Dreaming Back to This
I received a question in a comment the other day about the titles for DBtT and GBtR.
"'Dreaming Back to This' is actually a line from a poem I wrote once, about living through dreams and allowing a dream-world to affect your waking life. I'll probably post it at some point so everyone can see it. But, yeah, that idea just led me into thinking about dreams in general. Then I started thinking about two people who met each other in dreams but had never seen each other in real life: Do these two ever meet outside the dreams? Why are they dreaming about each other anyway? And it eventually led to all this. XD
'Getting Back to Real'... That ones a bit harder to explain. I wanted something that echoed the title of the first fic, so they're both in the same format: -ing verb, 'Back to', adjective. But I also wanted a contrast, so where the first title focused on the dreams aspect, I wanted this one to show that the characters are shifting their focus to the real world. They don't have to rely on their dreams anymore since they have each other now, and they're learning how to make that work for real."
So, in case anyone is curious, here is the poem in question. Hope you like it~~ ^_^
Dreaming Back to This
I dream of fantasy,
of laughter,
of magic.
I dream of a time
when I won't be
afraid to be
who I want to be
instead of
who I should be.
Dreaming awake,
I start to escape
and begin to believe
what my dreams offer.
And when I sleep
I dream of a place
so far removed
from the so-called reality
shoved in my face
every day.
I dream of being brave,
of being secure,
of being in control.
I dream I believe
in all the words
that I write.
Reality chooses
to batter me,
to break into me
that dreams
can't save me.
And when reality turns too brutal,
I find myself here--
turning to this:
these words,
this therapy,
this chance to cope.
As I lay me down to sleep,
I feel as I'm falling,
dreaming back to this.
