So for two weeks, I can live as a normal college student.

Since the beginning of the term, my life has been overwhelmed by electoral politics. Canvassings, phone-bankings, protests, rallies, minneapolis, meeting important people, bad parties, driving around the state, dressing up like a monkey for a publicity stunt. I tell my parents that my academics have come first but they haven't. In my classes, I daydream about the lit that I can make. Kind of sad but kind of true.

And in one day, it all just HAPPENED. All the races. All the results. It came to a crashing, muddled, hectic end. But a good one.

We were pretty much the only college town in Minnesota to be represented by a Republican state rep. In 2002, the Democrat lost by 46 votes. This time around, the same guy won by 57. Carleton had the highest midterm election turnout ever. Now, David Bly, a soft-spoken, articulate, progressive alternative school teacher will be serving in St. Paul. We actually made a discernable difference.

Plus, Nancy Pelosi is a really nice lady and is now the Speaker of the House. Rick Santorum is out of a job. And the disingenuous Maryland Republicans failed to win anything, even though they said they would.

Maybe tonight, I'll cook a dinner. Perhaps do some laundry and watch elimidate. Who knows- I could even study.
